O'Shaughnessy

Cave Cuvée Howell Mountain Red Blend 2001

Shay A
9.2

This was served blind. Dark core with some bricking around the edges. A touch of aged funk at first, then it shows dates, dark cocoa, mocha and blackberries. It’s got dusty tannins all over, but the finish was quite powerful and almost chalky. The mid palate was a medley of older baking spices, red plum, baked black cherries and old graham cracker. This held up in the decanter for a while and while it’s not getting better, I imagine it will hold here for a few years. I called this early 2000s mountain cab heavy blend from O’Shaughnessy. Cave de Saumur

Les Villaises Saumur Champigny Cabernet Franc 2017

Got from new season about 12. Got that funkiness taste which I really like. Colin does not taste zig. Dark color. Deep flavor. Would buy again. — 21 days ago

Porter Family Vineyards

Cave Dwellers Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Syrah 2013

Pencil shavings on nose. Bold, dry, black cherry forward, oak and some tannins follow on the backend. Opened bottle and nursed over 2 hours (no decanter in hotel)...wine opened and softened nicely. — 13 days ago

This was an excellent wine. It sadly came from a friend’s caller who has passed recently but we raised a glass in his name. Thank you Vic — a month ago

Here's something new, different and wonderful. Perfectly balanced acidity, creaminess and nuttiness. Lovely apple and hazelnut finish. — 19 days ago

Cave de Roquebrun

Les Fiefs d'Aupenac Saint-Chinian Syrah Blend 2016

Nice GSM southern France
Silky tannins with really longish finish
Nice change from Barossa GSMs - the Shiraz does not drown the blend

My first Swiss wine ever and it did not disappoint. Paired it with a soup-stew that is a cross of minestrone and pasta e fagioli, and it was perfect. Easy on the tongue. — 6 days ago
