Dujac called! They want their wine back. Elegant perfume, high toned fruit and persistence that won’t quit. One of the best Southern Hemisphere pinots I’ve tried and certainly one of the most elegant. Available if you would like some email me. Featured in somm3 and dumbfounded folks — 3 months ago

Irrewarra Pinot Noir 2015

2015 Irrewarra Pinot Noir by Farr. Excellent depth and length, as expected from the Farrs. Juicy sweet red fruits, oak spices, earth, all underlined by a distinct mineral finish. So much potential and great value at $59.

Note: The Farrs' experimental label, almost. Made from a leased vineyard in the namesake town (from the famed bakers of the area). The fruits use to go into the Farr Rising label, before it was deemed single vineyard-worthy in 2012. Distinctly different from the Farrs' homesite in the Bannockburn area - more inland, wetter. 6 acres PN, 2 acres Chard. For the 2015 PN - all MV6, no whole bunch, 30% new oak.

@Bob McDonald It isn't as rare as you think it is. Haha. It's available off the Farr website too. A really good Pinot if you're a fan of the Farr style.

First time tasting this producer. Burgundy esque. Way above average in every way. I could drink a whole bottle in literally no time. — 3 months ago

Tout Près Pinot Noir 2016

Hard to know which was the better - the view/ambience/restaurant or the wine. Let’s start with the former. Rick Shores, the restaurant is at Burleigh Heads on Queensland’s Gold Coast which used to be on the World Surfing Tour. I highly recommend this restaurant to my Northern Hemisphere Delectable friends if you are ever down under. Asian inspired and voted #2 restaurant in Queensland in 2018. Come at lunch time or 6.15pm in the evening as we did. The red duck curry was superb as was the Whole Snapper. The wine itself- Light to mid crimson in colour. Notes of forest floor and damp undergrowth with a touch of oak. Herbal notes. On the palate sweet and savoury with maraschino cherries and incredible length. Would love to see this in 5 plus years. A classy drop. — 5 months ago

Bass Phillip

Premium Gippsland Pinot Noir 2008

Mid crimson in colour with pale tinges. A brilliant perfumed nose with Cherries Stalks and a vegetal note. Palate staining intensity with a finish that goes On and On. An amalgam of flavours. I have often written on Delectable that this is Australia’s Best Pinot Noir producer and a wine like this just reinforces that view. Every now and again you will have a marvellous Bindi, By Farr, Yabby Lake or the many great Pinot’s coming from Tasmania but for consistency it has to be Bass Phillip. In summary whether you like the Old World or New World this is gorgeous Pinot Noir. — 3 months ago

Château Trotanoy

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 2008

Delectable Wine
9.4

The 2008 Trotanoy is a ferociously backward Pomerol that did not engage at Farr’s horizontal. Another bottle served over lunch that had undergone a long decanting was far more representative. It has a gorgeous bouquet with raspberry and menthol, a little dark chocolate and cedar. The palate is medium-bodied with ample freshness and vigor although it clearly demands a long aeration to really click into fifth gear. This is a multi-dimensional Trotanoy that probably needs another couple of years in bottle. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 10-Year On tasting. (Neal Martin, Vinous, May 2018) — a year ago

Geelong Chardonnay 2013

Straw gold in colour, peach and butterscotch on the palate; the fruit, oak and acid in perfect balance with a beautiful mouthfeel. A lovely wine and would reward another couple of years in the cellar. 92 pts. — 4 years ago
