Badgers Brook

Anima Chenin Blanc 2017

A charming spicy chenin from Paarl, South Africa. Yellow-greenish color and heavy on the swirl; the nose is like smelling and tasting a clear mountain brook followed by pineapple, peaches, anise, and a bouqet of flowers; the taste is rich and spicy, the fruit and spicy herbaceousness is lined up nicely and the finish is long. Yes, I was gobsmacked by surprise at how great this wine tasted. 13.5% and 20 usd. — 4 months ago

Lyle Fass

Superb nose of stone fruits, lime rock zest, minerals galore and a lovely confectionary aroma. Smells like a babbling brook. Awesome. Palate is concentrated, complex and chewy, with terrific lime zest and enough rocky minerality to start a quarry. Lovely tension and mouthfeel and razor sharp acids and freshness. Terrific. — 9 months ago

Pipers Brook Vineyard

Pinot Noir 2019

Pale to mid Ruby in colour with great clarity. Aromatic red and black Cherry notes with rose petals. A stalky whole bunch note with a little spice. Those fresh cherry notes of medium weight but medium plus intensity transfer through to the palate. Very fresh, young with great potential for future complexity. I can see why it won the Trophy for Best Pinot Noir at both Royal Adelaide and Royal Hobart - both shows with extensive and high quality Pinot entries. Too young but I had to try the first of 6. Next in a year plus. Technical background: (whole berry ferments with 20% whole bunches. Aged in 25% new puncheons and Barriques). — 10 months ago

@Greg Gosselin Yes Greg. They have been high quality producers in the Tamar River for a while now. Also make a good sparkling.

I visited them in 1990 when Andrew Pirie was still there!

He was certainly a giant of Tasmanian viticulture. Matthew Jukes (UK) once said that a wine he made was”the greatest sparkling wine made outside of Champagne “.

Mamre Brook Cabernet Sauvignon

4th of a dozen. Never disappoints! Still so lively with dark fruit and spice. Tannin structure so luscious. Love it! — 4 months ago

Subduction McCabe’s Brook Marquette 2015

A night of firsts for me: first Marquette and first Vermont wine!
Love the vibrant acidity. Nose leads me down the lovechild path of Beaujolais romancing Bonarda. Heavily cranberried sauciness with herbal influences. I would like to chill this few degrees and revisit with a thanksgiving menu in the fall. Likey!
