1st release of Montes Alpha was in 1988 when Montes became one of the first premium wineries in Chile. Today Aurelio Montes continues leading the winemaking effort. A blend of 90% Syrah, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon & 3% Viognier. Very dark red with aromas of berry fruit and cedar spice notes. On the palate blueberry and cherry flavors with cacao, leather and vanilla oak. Fine tannins, medium+ finish ending with toasty spice. Nice value. Tasted twice. — 4 years ago
Pleasantly surprised with this one. Found this is the back of my wine cellar forgotten about for a couple years. Ended up being a really nice old world Italian red. No idea what the vintage is — 5 years ago

£7.99 for a magnum at LIDL. Hard to go wrong with this wine at this price — 5 years ago
Very acidic - despite excellent lemon/ green apple base with pineapple/ pine overtones, it’s really a food wine as a bit too tart for sipping. Still, delicious and would go great with greasy or spicy food or strong-flavored fish dishes like cod — 7 months ago
