Another last of its kind wine as the San Mateo moved to Alesia label after this vintage. This young blend is really singing right now with bright red fruit and cedar spice and well balanced acidity. A candidate for short term aging, but the freshness of the fruit really shines now. — 7 years ago

Great fruit notes of baked apple, citrus, pear and apricot. Creamy lemon curd mixed with light sprinkles of spice (ginger, yellow curry, vanilla and green tea) on the midpalate. Lovely acidic veins in the not too long but very juicy and satisfying finish.

On the Lawn at Tanglewood this final afternoon with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Our guest conductor Michael Tilson Thomas is leading IVES (Psalm 90) and BEETHOVEN (Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Opus 125).

After a two-year pause, we arrive again to the day when Beethoven concludes on these hallowed grounds. The 9th by Beethoven is always bittersweet for us, as it marks the end of the official Symphony and Pops season for the BSO at their Summer home. It is a wonderful and singularly emotive piece moved with the full force of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus (110+) conveying the message of a divine spark of joy that makes all people one. The music and the day almost bring me to tears on an annual basis...

2015 is the end of the line for appellation wines bottled under the Rhys label. They will be repurposing the Alesia label to be used exclusively for appellation level wines which will be made with 100% Rhys estate vineyard fruit. This one in particular comes fully from the Bearwallow vineyard in Anderson Valley. It’s a lovely medium weighted pinot with raspberry, loam, and white pepper. med+ acidity and mild tannin. Improves with air and should improve over the next 3-5 yrs, although delicious now. — 8 years ago
