It’s the 2019 “Vicarious” Cabernet Sauvignon produced by Modus Operandi Cellars. Made by Jason Moore. IF you can find it- get it. $40 range (?) and as good as I’ve ever had at that price point. While hints of oak find their way to the nose, it’s the body that brings this one home. Rich, full and ever-growing on the palate, As it breathes the finish itself grows and leaves behind it a silky, surprisingly lush array of cassis, stewed cherry, and a texture that’s not often found in Cabs from Cali. Got to enjoy this lovely Napa cab with the winemaker his self, Jason Moore, along with his red blend Vicarious. Though both were good, this one stood out. The wine was almost black as it hit the glass. Nose smelt of blackberries and a bit of tobacco. Tastes of black & blueberry jam. Tannins are still heavy...give this another 3-5 years. — 10 years ago

This is the Central Coast, “Vicarious” Pinot from Modus Operandi- and it behaves nothing like what one’s expectations may be for such a thing. I’d love to hear about some of the vineyards because this Pinot, for its price, personality & value brings it. Delightful notes of spice box on the nose that leads directly to a welcome and syrupy palate of rich cherry, boysenberry and even some smoke towards the finish. I paid, with my own money to pick up six bottles of this debut effort of the Vicarious brand that was sourced from what must be some of the best vineyards for Pinot in ALL of the “central coast”. This is some great juice.

At pop and pour, it was aromatically very juicy and ripe...fresh squeezed black cherries, blackberries. There was also a “sweet” note I was picking up that reminded me of sandalwood. However, after just a short 20-30mins, this surprised me in how a streak of herbs and leather appeared. This continued on the palate where I would have likely guessed young Bordeaux if tasting blind. Medley of Cherry pipe tobacco, tar, and dark cocoa dusted dates. While nice, Jason’s other wines (specifically his Syrah) are the standouts, and for a little less, I think his Vicarious is just as enjoyable. Day 2 showed no change. Probably best enjoyed on the young side. — 7 years ago
