Touriga nacional
Trincadeira
Cabernet-sauvignon — 7 months ago
A totally complete wine, Sijnn’s flagship red from the South African outpost of Malgas, is an incredibly drinkable wine in 2016 that shares many a semblance with a good quality Saint Joseph.
Syrah dominant, with Touriga Nacional, Trincadeira, Mourvèdre and a nominal amount of Cabernet Sauvignon completing the unusual blend, it’s expressive from opening and benefits from a two hour decant. Dark, brooding and complex, with an iron core and some bright cherry acidity, it’s a virile wine with good length and a great accompaniment to beef. I’m lucky to have two more bottles and will excitedly try another in a few years’ time.
PS. Sorry for the unwarranted pic of my food but this was last week and I’ve since ditched the bottle. — 2 years ago
Citrus, wood finish, minor alcohol taste, green apple in front. Smooth and long. — 2 months ago
Decanted it for a few hours to open it up. Fruit forward but not overly sweet, with a peppery finish. Great with grilled meat. Very good value, would buy again — 6 months ago
2021 vintage. Note that there is no Touriga Nacional in this wine, it is a blend of 40% Aragonêz, 30% Alicante Bouschet, 20% Trincadeira and 10% Castelão. Fitapreta was the project of young winemaker António Maçanita and the late consultant David Booth ( who sadly died from a heart attack at age 47 in 2012). Maçanita favours minimal intervention, indigenous yeasts and low sulfites. Terrific value, bursting with fruit and spices with a ripe tannic backbone. Aged 50% in stainless steel and 50% in neutral barrels. Abv. 14,5%. — 8 months ago
