Nose of mushroom and compost, leather, tar, vanilla and blackberry pie. Spicy on the tongue, with almost bitter cherry and blueberry skin. Dark chocolate and mocha strike on the mid palate with minerality to finish. Plush yet elegant. Drank side by side with ‘09 - prefer the ‘10. Alcohol stays in balance on this vintage, subtle oak notes show to finish. Drink now with a splash decant. — 10 days ago

Modern take on Ribera del Duero from select vineyards. The color is deep purple, indicative of the 60+ year old vine grape selection. An expressive nose with scents of black fruits, tobacco and leather. The mouthfeel is equally expressive with cherry, blackberry, oak, vanilla, and licorice. The tannings are soft for such a young Tempranillo, and it is not slander but quite the contrary, it allows for the elegant finish with finesse and length. Very exiting wine!
PS The mastermind/winemaker behind Aalto made his mark at Vega Sicilia for over 30 years. It is no surprise the wine is excellent; it will be exciting to see how the wine evolves over the next decade and how it will challenge some of the greatest wines produced in the region.

Perfecto. Intenso, sutil, sabroso — 18 days ago
At 16.5% I was expecting it to knock my head off with the alcohol overpowering any other tastes. Pleasantly surprised at what a good Toro this is — a month ago
Deep ruby with opaque center and a dull platinum rim, medium viscosity. On the nose, it has frank and expressive blackberry, cassis and ripe cherry aromas followed by gentle spice and oak overtones. This just smells elegant. On the palate, it turns into a delight with a plushy broad mouthfeel and firm yet silky tannins. Confirmed the aromas and got vanilla and spices in the long and floral finish. Dry wine, medium acidity, medium tannins, medium plus body and medium plus alcohol. Very well integrated with a noticeable structure. Decanted for 3 hours. Probably will be hard to guess Tempranillo in a blind tasting...first time trying a Vega Sicilia wine and I can see why their wines are so sought after! A treat any day really, but even better on a smoky Seattle day. — 11 days ago
