This is the 2012 Late Disgorged Blanc de Noir.

Having been a long time fan of Michael Cruse and his Ultramarine wines, I was excited to try my first late disgorged offering. Michael recommended at least 6 months post disgorgement before opening…this was disgorged Nov 2020, so I was able to give this 8 months.

Compared to the regular Blanc de noir, I didn’t get that cream soda type note on the nose upon opening, but a lot of this was similar to its regular sibling. Definitely a core of oxidized Apple, with notes of Apple strudel, Bosc pear, and a Carmex note I get with a lot of zero dosage grower champagnes. On the palate it was more full bodied and rich, with a very vinous profile. Closer to high quality white wine than it was sparkler. Bubbles weren’t aggressive. Fruit was mainly Granny Smith Apple with lime stone, and sea salted grilled lemon. Not yeasty. Tasty, as expected!

Sonoma Mountain Estate Pinot Noir 2019

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim, and medium plus intensity.

Fruity nose of bing cherries, strawberries, raspberries, spices, oak, light barnyard, earth, vegetables, herbs and tobacco leaf.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with raspberries, cherries, oak, spices, chocolates, vegetables, bitter herbs and peppercorn.

Spicy finish with soft tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a very enjoyable Pinot Noir from Sonoma. Easy drinking and good by itself or with food.

Nicely balanced with a soft mouthfeel. Spicy and fruit forward.

Would be nice to revisit it in a couple of years.

Good right out of the bottle and gets earthier as it opens up. A good wine to sip on by the porch.

I paired it with cheeses, nuts and olives.

14.4% alcohol by volume.

Nose is pretty funky out of the gates and this needs a decant as the winemaker told me. Palate is also closed and backwards but shows great promise. I’ll be back for a score. Not cool to judge it now.

3 hours open and we are finally getting there with a terrific fruit core and great acidity and freshness. Silky. Elegant finish. Very deep and long . But I can tell it's at 35-45% and has miles to go. The nose takes a while to open up as well but it finally has as well. Such complex minerality. That's the uniqueness of it. The finish is superb but this is a throwback wine and needs to be aged for 6-10 years. I'll see where it is tomorrow and the next day.

La Muse Sonoma County Merlot Blend 2007

A 07 Verite vs 08 Levy & McClellan cage match tonight (PREVIOUS NOTES APPLY for L&M, but bump rating up to 9.4).

La Muse is the pomerol style of their 3 wines with 85% merlot, 10% cab franc, 5% malbec. 1.5 hour decant (some fine/cloudy sediment). A wondrous dark ruby red color. On the nose: Beautiful perfumed nose of dark raspberry, mocha, floral, slight funky earth, minty menthol, crushed rocks. Taste: a soft, smooth dry medium plus body wine with mouth coating plum, minerals, earth, currants and a long dry spicy tea finish. Everything in place and drinking well now with a number of years to go. Cheers!

Hanzell Farm The Day Selection Chardonnay 2015

Interesting story. Put this in the freezer Saturday night for an after party bottle and promptly forgot it until the next day. I put it in the fridge bc of course the cork popped and it was a slushee. It thawed out today and I am enjoying a very nice wine. I think the freezing perhaps accelerated the aging a bit but it still amazingly tastes as it should. Nice Chard. Drinking young but it’s a fighter! — 4 days ago

Light yellow in color with a golden hue.

Fruity nose with gooseberries, grapefruits, lemons, limes, light spices and minerals.

Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with grapefruit juice, lemons, citrus, apples, spices and white pepper.

Spicy finish with tangy limes.

This is a very enjoyable Sauvignon Blanc from Sonoma Mountain. Easy drinking, crisp and refreshing. Fruit-forward and enjoyable by itself, with nice length on the finish.

A great porch wine. Nicely balanced with a touch of RS to balance the acidity.

13.7% alcohol by volume.
