Sciacarello Nielluccio

Domaine Maestracci

Les Marottes d'Anais Sciacarello Nielluccio 2018

Medium purple with lighter, more lavender undertones and a thin rim. Beautifully perfumed nose featuring tons of floral notes. White flowers, violets, and earth are dominate here. Stewed plums and black cherries contribute, along with herbs and black pepper. A little mushroom just for good measure.

50/50 Niellucciu and Sciaccarellu from Corsica. Certified biodynamic. Very reminiscent of good Beaujolais but lighter and thinner. This is a pretty wine that maintains its rustic qualities in equilibrium. Juicy and fresh, with a ton of character. More red and blue fruits along with earthy deliciousness. One of the most fun wines I’ve tasted in a while.

La Boutanche Grenache Nielluccio

Fun, rides the line between glou glou and structured. Starts w sweet, Black cherry, blackberry, red plum, with tobacco, tar, black tea, earthy clay notes and a hint of funk jumping in on the mid palate and finish. — 11 days ago

Domaine de Cendrillon

Corbières Nielluccio

2020 vintage. First vintage of rare 100% Nielluccio (Corsican name for Sangiovese) by Corbières producer Domaine de Cendrillon. Whole cluster fermentation. No added sulfites Intense perfume of wild raspberry, violets and a hint of pepper. Even at 14,5 % abv it has a certain lightness to it. Bright red fruits, crisp acidity, a nice ripe tannic bite and violets in the finish. Very good indeed. — a month ago

Y’all probably know by now that I’m a fan of rosé. Anytime, anywhere, with any food. It’s one of the most satisfying wines around. But I’m kind of picky when it comes to rosé. It’s gotta have energy. It’s gotta have lift. It’s gotta have ACIDITY. While I might catch some flak for this, I’m just gonna say it. There is no surer bet in the world of pink wine than Corsican rosé. I’ve never met one I didn’t like. Hell, I’ve never met one where I didn’t immediately want a second bottle. So whenever it crosses my path, I grab it. By the glass, by the bottle, by the case. This little beauty (from the Isle of Beauty, no less) was made by Eric Poli, and comes from organically farmed (uncertified) vines on the east side of the island near Eric’s hometown. Made from Sciaccarellu, an indigenous red to the island that makes just stunningly bright rosés. Citrus skin, strawberry, dried flowers and grapefruit are layered over wet stone minerality that is just gorgeous. — 19 days ago
