Thilibas Vermentino di Gallura 2019

Delectable Wine
9.1

This mineral-drenched yet silky Vermentino wafts up from the glass effortlessly with minty freshness. Time brings out further depths of ripe yellow apple, citrus-tinged orchard fruit and pretty florals, finishing with juicy, cheek-puckering tension. $23.00 (Eric Guido, Vinous, March 2021) — 4 months ago

Alghero Cagnulari

You know, I have no idea what the eff this is or what in the naming is actually identifying (“isola dei nuraghi”), but this one is scintillating. At first, the entry was pleasant and red fruity and quickly went to lapsang souchong (which I hate), but the character really changed like a chameleon several times. There are candied caramelized pig fat notes, and some grippy haminess, and some mulled spice notes. This would probably be a great pizza wine. Goes well with chocolate. Eenteresting. — 7 months ago

Taerra Vermentino di Gallura Superiore 2019

Another wine from Ciro at Le Volpe e l’uva, this vermentino was terrific and was a perfect pairing with the homemade potato gnocchi with pesto that Vanessa made for dinner. Yum! — 4 months ago

Marchese di Villamarina Alghero Cabernet Sauvignon 2004

Nearing perfection. Just outstanding and so so elegant, it’s still got years to go. Menthol, cigar, balsamic notes a just a hint of fruit at the end. I wish i had more to hold — 7 months ago

Alghero Torbato 2018

My first Torbato. Definitely drink this wine at about 55*-65*. It has great mineral character. Salty with some citrus and melon notes. — 9 months ago

Sciala Vermentino di Gallura 2019

This wine has a floral nose, but that does not shortchange the minerality. There is a good bit of lemon and salinity in the mix, too. The palate shows the citrus and minerals strongest, with a very nice bit of acidity. Extremely nice, actually. I should have had some seafood with it, but it was cream of mushroom soup day, with some rice on the side. It paired quite well. — 4 months ago

Karagnanj Superiore Vermentino di Gallura 2007

Very surprising to find this wine so alive after 13 years. Though less intense now and clear signs of aging: caramel and some ‘wet chalky cellar’. But also very floral, yellow fruit, laurel and rosemary. ( some parts make you think if aged Riesling)High alcohol, low acidity, full bodied, high intensity: kaki, spices, some bitters, very long. — 6 months ago
