Petite Sirah

Stags' Leap Winery

Napa Valley Petite Sirah 2018

Deep purple in color with a short purple rim.

Full bodied with medium acidity and long legs.

Showing black fruits with earth, oak, spices, coffee, dark chocolates, vegetables, light vanilla, herbs and peppercorn.

Starting to drink nicely now. Still young and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly.

Good right out of the bottle, but very tight. Needs 3 hours to open up, but it finished too quickly.

Aged in (25% new) American oak barrels for 14 months.

14.4% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

$45.

Very drinkable zinfandel blend. Paired well with our Cornish game hen and potatoes. Reasonable price point.

Orin Swift Cellars

Abstract Grenache Blend 2021

Blend of Grenache, Syrah & Petite Sirah, very dark Ruby with purple center, aromas of fresh ripe black/blue fruits with floral & spice. On the palate flavors of black cherry and blackberry with cacao, espresso and vanilla notes with savory chewy tannins, well balanced, long finish ending with fruit and toasty vanilla oak. Nice! Consistent Quality! — a month ago

Grosjean Frères

Vigne Rovettaz Vallée d'Aoste Petite Arvine 2020

Here’s a serious mountain wine that is LOVELY!! 🏔️🏔️

It offers a bouquet of vibrant, high-toned fruit qualities, such as grapefruit, mandarin orange peel, lemon zest, pear, just ripe white peach, and apricot, layered with white blossom, acacia, herbal, crushed stone, wet gravel, cheese rind, and delicate cream notes. 🤩🤩 It’s dry with a firm structure including medium(+) acidity and medium alcohol (13.5%).

It’s the Grosjean Frères, Vigne Rovettaz, Vallée d’Aoste AOC, Petite Arvine (2020).

The Grosjean Frères winery has been owned and operated by the Grosjean family since 1968. Today, it’s the father, his five sons, and their cousins, who collectively treasure their vineyards like precious heirlooms of the earth, meticulously tending to them, while employing certified organic farming practices.

These vineyards are located in the stunning Alpine region of the Vallée d’Aoste AOC in far northwest of Italy (north of Piedmont), sharing a border with both France (to the northwest) and Switzerland (to the northeast).

For context, Mont Blanc (15,780 ft elevation) calls the Vallée d’Aoste its home…  please take me there!

Surrounded by this dramatic landscape, you’ll find the Rovettaz Vineyard, where Grosjean Frères grows its Petite Arvine grapes for this complex, textured wine that saw sur lie (with bâtonnage), and partial French oak, aging for 8 months prior to bottling.

Cin cin to this beauty! 🥂🥂

@Vanessa A great cool/cold climate district Vanessa. We all must drink more wines from there.

@Bob McDonald Couldn’t agree more! It’s a small but mighty appellation, producing such a wide variety of black and white grapes, making a range of beautiful styles of wine!

Red with an interesting blend of body, tart, and sweetness. One of the better reds coming from someone who prefers sweeter tastes to the palate. — 20 days ago

Really nice red blend! I have always loved the earthy components, dark berries, dark chocolate, tobacco, forest floor, and a long anise finish — a day ago

2018 vintage. 36 Petite Syrah, 30 Syrah, 22 Mouvèdre, 12 Grenache. Hevvy bod. Just might be the best valued GSM-esque blend coming straight outta Paso. 5.11.23. — a month ago

Daou Vineyards

Pessimist Paso Robles Red Blend 2021

Delectable Wine
9.0

A wildly fresh bouquet of violets, lavender, cooling smoke and sugar-dusted blueberries wafts up as the 2021 Pessimist by DAOU unfolds in the glass. It's soft-textured yet energetic in style. Candied citrus hints accentuate cooling mineral tones and crisp wild berry fruits. The 2021 finishes with impressive length yet lightly structured. Violette Pastille and crunchy mineral tones slowly fade. (Eric Guido, Vinous, May 2023) — 20 days ago

La Petite Côte Condrieu Viognier 2019

The Dr. Pepper to shake up my Cola habit. Condrieu is something different - thick, waxy texture, concentrated like mercury. Yellow canned peaches in syrup, apricot jam, starfruit, honey, and the most awesome orange liquor.
