Muscat Of Alexandria

M. Chapoutier

Muscat de Beaumes de Venise 2016

Can’t say I’d reach for a sweet fortified muscat by choice, but this wasn’t too bad. Expectedly rich with notes of ripe exotic fruits and candied citrus peels. While there was not much going on beyond that, it did go exceedingly well with some blue cheese. Having said that, I would have preferred to have matched the cheese with the sweet energy of a Spatlese or grandoise of a Sauternes. — 12 days ago

Domaine Zind Humbrecht

Goldert (Gueberschwihr) Grand Cru Muscat 2018

Citrus! Nose of pure citrus. Palette is citrus, almost like an orange wine but far less intense. Great for Summer where it makes one feel like one is on a tropical resort. Very enjoyable. Thirty minutes of air before consuming is essential, and I would let it warm up closer to room temperature. — 22 days ago

Field Blend Finger Lake Riesling Blend 2017

Field Blend of Riesling, Muscat, Ottonel and Gewürztraminer. All sorts of fruits in there with a dry finish. Unusual. — a month ago

Gentil Alsace Sylvaner Blend 2019

Quite enjoyable. Nice floral and citrus aromas, and flavors of apricot and anjou pear. At first it seemed sweeter than I was expecting, but then on the second night it had mellowed and let more of its character out. Great pairing with Mongolian seafood stirfry. 50% Sylvaner and Pinot Blanc, 22% Pinot Gris, 15% Gewürztraminer, 7% Riesling, 6% Muscat. 5/25/22. — 3 months ago

Optio Vineyards La Mar Vineyard Petite Sirah 2020, Paso Robles, California

Deep purple in color with a short purplish rim.

Full bodied with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with nice complexity and mouthfeel.

Showing black currants, cooked cherries, plums, dried figs, tobacco, oak, spices, light vanilla, peppercorn and bitter herbs.

Nice length on the finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a tasty Petite Sirah from Paso Robles. Showing nice complexity, rich and concentrated.

This Single Vineyard is a nice sipping wine, big and bold. Good right out of the bottle and good by itself. Fruit forward, extracted and jammy.

Still young and would be better in a few years. Would be nice to revisit it in 5 years, and see if it calms down a bit.

In your face kind of wine, so not for the faint of hearts, with a teeth staining color.

Petite Sirah grapes were aged in (50% new) oak barrels for 17 months. A tiny production of only 660 bottles.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

Domaine Julien Pilon

Frontiere Terroir de Seyssuel Viognier 2020

This is a terrific Condrieu lookalike. Intense nose has deep orchard fruit and a Muscat-like musk. Lots of low-toned crushed rock minerality. In the mouth it’s got deep ripe fruit that asymptotically verges on Gewurz but pulls away and gets intense minerally on the finish. Nice acids for a Viognier. Great value. — 11 days ago

Naramata Bench Rattlenake Vineyard Alexandria 2021

On the nose, this is orange blossom and lemon peel... On the palate, the orange blossom continues with river rock... Not a lot of notes here... Don't think too hard... Not a long finish here but pleasant and cheery... This is always a good buy year after year. — 4 days ago

Bonny Doon Vineyard

Le Cigare Orange 1983

Didn’t know what to expect. It’s a gorgeous clear copper colored wine. Coats your tongue- guessing that must be the muscat? Hint of sweetness, ripe stone fruit, no pronounced aromas but a nice long finish of sherry. Super fun, will try again and think about what to pair it with. Or just enjoy it on a Sunday afternoon. — 18 days ago
