Paisaje de las Islas Forastera Blanca 2017

Alder Yarrow

The wine world is so incredibly vast, life’s too short to drink the same thing all the time. Let’s all drink adventurously, shall we? Here’s a great example. Ever heard of the grape Forastera Blanca? Not likely unless you’ve been to a tiny speck of an island off the Altlantic coast of North Africa, named La Gomera. The smallest of the Canary Islands, it is the homeland for this unusua grape that has been revived commercially by Mr. Agustín Farráis. These own-rooted 100-year-old vines yield a wine that smells of pear skin, sea air and dried yellow herbs. Flavors of crushed stone, sea air, citrus pith, and herbs linger with a faint struck-flint note in the finish, as if the wine, in the end wants to make sure you never forget the volcano. — 2 days ago

Lanzarote Listán Negro Rosado 2020

Very cool wine bursting with starfruit and some tropical flavors. Clean acidity and a mineral backbone. This may be the best wine I’ve tasted from the Canary Islands. — 22 days ago

Listan Blanco de Canarias 2019

On the nose it is a bouquet of Calla Lillies on a wet volcanic rock while being hit by Vientos Alisios… on the palate it is rounded balanced with a punch of sweet fruit at the beginning then change to this long Bitter almonds Mineral finish that is just magnificent… I am speechless … — 5 days ago

Vinas Viejas Valle de la Orotova Listan Negro 2016

Happy Father's Day! For my celebration, I was able to cook w my daughter. Menu included massive, tomato-braised, pprk meatballs; stuffed, braised squid w potates.
This wune pours w a pale garnet/ruby color. Nose shows plenty of red fruits, cherries, a hint of cyanic pit/bitter almond, dried rose, violet and some soil tone. Easy going style, soft tannins, moderate acidity and a pleasant but brief finish.
I pulled this bottle remembering a tasting w a Canary island producer who gifted me a dries pepper/spice blend. Since the squids are stuffed w peppers, onions and braised in tomato, this seemed like an ideal match.

Táganan Parcela Margalagua Red Blend 2019

Wasn’t quite ready for the reduction but I should have known better. Quite crispy. Freshly crushed pepper is prominent. Briar, spice, cherry pits too.

This is the chef’s take on a staple classic. Only for those who are ready for a new experience.

La Solana Vino de Parcela Cordón Trenzado Listan Negro 2014

Really nice plushy persistence, especially for a medium bodied wine, and it improved with air, but there’s a touch of unpleasant raisin up front. — a month ago
