Hopper Creek Winery

World's End

Crossfire Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Had several bottles of this wine in the past 5 years. And this one is easily the best.
Gorgeously rich and pure on the nose: black cherries, blueberry pancakes and blackberry preserve.
This all echoes on the palate and some well dosed pinches of caramel, cocoa, coffee and toast take this wine to another level. Just enough acidity to give it some fraicheur, soft and ripe tannines backing up the long and incessant finish.
Totally beautiful.

Had this twice something like 5 years ago, back then it was still a bit rough around the edges. Should have waited much longer reading your notes

@Jan A Maybe yes, maybe no. Could be due to substantial bottle variation as well.

This saw some time in oak and was much more complex than the Dolcetto. This was also finished with natural cork as opposed to aggomerated/Diam. When I asked about it the winery representative said they mix and use both in the hopper at bottling which kind blew my mind... — 2 years ago

Delas Frères

Les Launes Crozes-Hermitage Syrah 2018

2018 vintage. 3rd bottle in two months. Consistent black/white pepper in the nose along with plenty of body. Oodles of blackberry in the taste hopper. — 3 years ago

Myriad Cellars

Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

After my annual Napa trip, and a few days home of drying out, I wanted a well aged Napa cab to bring me back in.

I gave this a 3hr double decant before trying. I snuck a small glass on opening and it was sporting an uber youthful bite and not much on the finish. After I gave it time, it really fleshed out and bulked up quite a bit. Poured alongside a 2012 Alpha Omega Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper, the Myriad was the group favorite, but it obviously depends on a style preference. The AO was more elegant and finesse driven whereas the Myriad was powerful. Had a classical DrCrane scorched earth flair on the nose but plenty of ripe red and black fruits alongside mocha, dark baking spices and sweet toasted oak (very much in the background). The palate was licorice, tar, and mixed dark berry pie with fine grained tannin on the finish. I’d say this is now in a prime window if you can give it time, but I’m hard pressed to say this gets better…I think it just gets different.

M100 Columbia Valley Red Blend 2017

Lovely blend from Charlie Hopper. Has a nice spiciness to it just like I’m sure his dear grandma was (who the wine was named after). A very nice tribute wine. Good the second day too. Fine on its own, better with food. — 3 years ago

Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Elegant wine with blackberry, black currant, plum, boysenberry, black cherry, anise, vanilla, smoke, and mocha. The fruit is quite forward but avoids being cloying thanks to balancing the fruit with abundant ripe, well-integrated tannin and high acidity. It’s a lovely wine with a rich, full-bodied texture and a long finish. Enjoyable now and will keep for 10 years — 4 months ago

Château Prieuré-Lichine

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

2016 vintage. Last tasted in May 2022. At that time, the wine had shed much of the baby fat and gone leaner bodied. Ummm…this bottle added the weight/body back on along with the overt fruit missing for the last year back into the hopper. The most Jekyll/Hyde BDX I’ve ever had the pleasure to taste multiple x’s. Have zero idea what to expect on the next visit but thinking it won’t be boring. 2.20.23 — a year ago

I actually give this the nod over the 2017 b cellars missouri hopper from last night. This was tasting great from the get go. Chocolate, lush dark fruits with cherry as the star, touch of leather. 95-96 — 3 years ago

I don’t get the 17 Reds, seems they added more Mega Purple to make up for the bad vintage

@Paul T- Huntington Beach definitely hit or miss. We’ll be drinking these up and aging the 2018s (and 2019s).
