Reminiscent of Beaujolais' Gamay, this southern part of Tuscany's Ampeleia is producing some fine red wine! Mine tonight, after 30 minutes swim and spin in the decanter's pool of naked open space and air shows first to the nose wet rocks, slate and sandstone freshly accenting menthol and anise then strictly earthen dirt and minerals and a hint of the berries. First kiss is lightly but intriguingly nasty, wet and dripping red fruit which immediately coats and clings but most interestingly reaches back for the wet rocks overlooking the Med, then re-engages just in time to leave hints of her red and blue berry essence complimenting the blackened octopus in a mash of white beans and spices laced with a hint of Tabasco offered up by Chapel Hill's Il Palio located off Franklin Street (checkout both) Ciao🕶 — 11 years ago

The 2012 Tina Marie was the best vintage I've had from this vineyard. Great Pinot characteristics, plum, forward juice, raspberry, soft tannins, but heavier than other 2012s. Definitely more life in this one. Drank over three days and was tight throughout. One of Ant Hill's best 2012s. — 9 years ago

Dark fruit balanced through old oak showing light spice on the nose encouraging thought to nail a specific note but is remaining a bit of an enigma in my rock rattled head after a good day enhanced by 75 MPH Harley induced wind and the brilliance of Bose and an iPhone. Ok, back to the wine, it touches, lightly grabs spreading its dark berry mini-burst in a layered earth touched tannin slow ride making magic with some of Chapel Hill's Bin 54's straight up amazing goodness (in this case very rare filet mignon, garlic tinged green beans and almond slivers; my go to steak spot in NC). Precisely what one expects from a Gironde, France Haut Mèdoc. Brilliant balance of earthy spice hovering above a berry blend with near perfect acid melting into a long warm drizzle down one's throat leaving an essence of the start all the way through the lingering finish. So very proper with a rare filet mignon and crisp green beans at Chapel Hill's Bin 54 ((good way to make the evening match the beauty of a crisp Harley ride down the mountain from Asheville!!).
