Expressive nose with black peppercorns, cloves, crushed rock, a hint of iron & blood, underneath all that - pure black fruit. Fresh, spicy, enticing.
Medium bodied on the palate with ripe, grippy tannins, juicy black fruit acidity and nice purity to the fruit. This has grip, good tension, quite some power and loads of character. Reminiscent of Northern Rhône.
Nice length, too! A brilliant Austrian red! — 7 months ago
Open & engaging nose, with rosehip & mint at the beginning, followed by black & blueberries. There’s a whiff of fresh orange zest in the background.
On the palate this starts with velvety & warm, yet finishes on a cool, liberal note.
Sweet ripe blackberries & yellow pear compote. Firm yet polished & juicy tannins and great flow.
This is surprisingly fine & elegant and drinks beautifully! And hard to beat for value at 12€! — a year ago
Great German spätburgunder nose, cherry, smoked ham and some stony minerality, medium body, again cherry and minerality, rather short and fresh finish, very refreshing red, you must like those kind of reduced red wines — 7 months ago
Crisp yet sweet reisling — 8 months ago
Impressive. Typical of the grape (and how many do you see outside of Austria??) medium body. Good acidity. Bright black and red fruit. Spicy with white pepper, nutmeg, green cardamom and espelette. Dried roses. First wine from this producer. Will need to try several more based on how impressive this NZ Zwiegelt is. Very well made. — 2 years ago
