Aux Boudots Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru PINOT NOIR 2016

Cherry, tropical woody notes (sandalwood), strawberry compote, forest floor. Good stuff but coming in a little “warm” on the palate. Muscular and tannic though though missing some freshness. — 8 days ago

Domaine Robert Arnoux / Arnoux-Lachaux

Les Proces Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2015

My Arnoux-Lachaux day. Had the 2017 Romanee St. Vivant at lunch. A 2018 Clos de Vougeot at 6 pm and this NSG at 10 pm. It holds its own with those two grand crus. All of these wines are full bodied but they display an incredible elegance. Red fruit and great salinity with a touch of acid to create great balance. For me Charles Lachaux has reached superstar status in 2018 with unfortunately prices to match. That is what makes this wine so great, it is still relatively affordable and scores almost as good as the two grand crus tasted earlier. — 2 days ago

Rue de Chaux Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2010

We love the style. Purity of fruit, transparency, classicism, not overdone. Black fruits, spices, some of the rusticity of Nuits, medium bodied, ends on an elegant register. Fantastic with food. Great QPR. — 18 days ago

Chateau Cap St. George

St. Georges-St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

Let breathe for 90 minutes--it probably needs more. Brickish-orange rim. Black olive brine on the nose and palate is dominant. Very little fruit remains, some dried mint. Medium minus acidity. Medium alcohol. Blunt tannins. Drink now or forever hold your piece or peace--whichever you are more comfortable with.

Clos de la Maréchale Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2012

Incredibly elegant wine with all there is to please. Asian spices, flowers, dark cherries, and a touch of cinnamon. Complex and medium bodied, excellent now but no rush. — a month ago

Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair

Aux Cras Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2016

Absolutely stunning. Quite the contrast to the Colombiere, as this is much more serious and structured and the Aux Cras terroir shines through. New oak is more prevalent, of course, but it’s so integrated already and doesn’t get in the way. The nose is incredibly intense and aromas of dark fruit, sweet spice and a wet rock minerality waft from the glass. While this wine is let’s say, more masculine and less sexy than the Colombiere, there is still a seductive Vosne-like perfume that’s so undeniably CLB and lures you in. The palate is powerful and is full of energy, while at the same time remaining focused and seamlessly delineated. To no surprise length is superior to the Colombiere. Totally irresistible now, but boy this will be a knockout down the road. — 15 days ago

Les Proces Nuits St. Georges Pinot Noir 2014

I usually am not such a great fan of MSG. I find the wines too harsh, too masculine. This is a great MSG, lighter, feminine, full of sumptuous red fruit, precise and delineated closer to a Vosne than a MSG with great balance. Enjoyable (a bit too much) but another 10 years in it. Above all still affordable which can’t be said of the other wines of this emerging (for me he has emerged) super star. Got enough of it to carry me for 10 years but afraid it is too good to forego. — 15 hours ago
