Etna Rosato Calabretta 2014

Grange Bin 95 Shiraz 2014

Blend of 98% Shiraz and 2% Cab Sauv, deep Ruby with aromas of rich fruit, cedar, sweet herbs and pepper notes, for this difficult vintage. On my the palate fruit flavors of expressive raspberry and cherry with notes of vanilla, cedar, licorice and herbal tea. Fine grippy tannins, long finish ending with fruit, cedar and spice. Nice! Tasting Sample! Tried twice! — 4 days ago

Kita

Camp 4 Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Kitá, red blend, Santa Ynez Valley, CA, Vintage 2014, ABV 13.5%. The blend is comprised of 48% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Franc, 9% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Petit Verdot. @kitawines

👁 It had a beautiful purple hue and vibrant notes of black cherry, blackberry, black currant, plum, violets, cedar, nutmeg, vanilla, leather, and tobacco. 👃 👄

I loved learning about the background on this wine and winemaker Tara Gomez, who studied enology with financial help from her tribe, the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians. 💕 Tara has worked with iconic figures in the California wine world — such as Fess Parker and J. Lohr— and has traveled the world, honing her own unique style of winemaking that blends the best of old world and new world techniques. 👏👏👏 @tgomez805

This red blend is made of grapes grown on the Camp 4 Vineyard, purchased by the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians in 2010, when Tara was hired as head winemaker. 🍇🍇 The land was previously cultivated by Fess Parker, who had an influence on Tara’s budding career while interning at Fess Parker Winery during her enology studies.

The word "Kitá" means "Our Valley Oak" in the Santa Ynez Chumash native language of Samala. The wine is speaks to “place” and respect for the land from which it is cultivated. 🌎 🌳 Yields and production are kept small to promote sustainable growing practices and the grapes are harvested by hand and vinified with minimal intervention.

The Mascot

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

This bottle is about 11 months after my previous review of this vintage. Pretty much the same review but the fruit has definitely become more pronounced. Still not getting much on the nose. The red and blue fruit shine, tannins mellowed a bit, structure is coming together wonderfully. This wine is about entering a great drinking stage. A nice 30min plus decant is recommended. — 5 days ago

Château Saint-Christoly

Médoc 2014

Red currant and toast and cedar and tobacco. This is a nice médoc nose. The palate is well made with a good balance and a bright fruit, a nice tannins layer in midpalate leaving a slight drying effect, and a long médoc finish with oak, black currant and that disruptive layer. We had it over a plate of cheese and charcuterie, next to the estuaire in... Saint christoly, right next to the estate and side by side with the owner. Cool experience! — 3 days ago

@Josh Morgenthau inspired me to open one of these and wanted to check in on one with age. Glad I did. Preposterous nose of huge granite, lemon, some tropical fruits and exotic flowers. Amazing lime and lemon drop. Focused and round nose with such lovely granitic precision. Bit of honey and tree bark. Palate is rich and energetic with wonderful edgy and granite driven Marsanne minerality. Excellent acid and freshness and uncommon depth. Great purity. What grip. Best white wine value in all of the N. Rhone. — 7 days ago

Stonestreet Estate Vineyards

Chardonnay 2014

‘14 aged well! In the autumn of 1989, Jess Jackson acquired the Zellerbach winery and renamed it in honor of his late father, Jess Stonestreet Jackson. From higher elevation vineyards, medium lemon color with stone fruit aromas & floral notes. On the palate flavors of apple and pear, a tad buttery with layered spice, vivid acidity supporting the French oak aging. Medium+ finish ending with citrus mineral character. Very nice, drink now! — 13 days ago

Maison Bleue

Voyageur Yellow Jacket Vineyard Syrah 2014

Holy cow is this good. Nose features tons of all kinds of warm, smoky rock dust. There’s peat, sweet spices, and rich, pure red, blue, purple, and black fruit. In a word, the nose is complex. On the palate the initial attack is mouthfilling, but it’s in the mid-palate that it shines, with great flavor density (not weight) and softness. The finish is very long. Tannins are abundant but very soft. Medium acids (The Rocks District is known for lots of things, but brights acids aren’t one of them; I think the basaltic terroir has something to do with that.) Just outstanding. — 11 days ago

"G" Acte 6 Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

This is getting better each year. Great blend of merlot and cab franc, it has black berries, cherries, violettes and crushed roses, in a medium bodied and very balanced wrap. No excess maturity nor excess alcohol, all done to perfection. Still requires a few years, maybe 3 to 4, but hard to resist now. Top notch stuff and goes for such low prices if you can find them. 2018 is now called Les Perrières de Lafleur and goes for 99 bucks. Plays in the big league !!! — 6 days ago

Good to hear, I bought the 2016 because I didn’t want follow the price increases of classic Bordeaux wines for 2016. Looking forward opening one!

We did bought 2014, 2015 and 2016. Just found some 2012 and buying too. Have yet to taste the 2016. 2015 is richer and less classical than the 2014 but really good and well done. I guess each year will get better. Let me know your thoughts on the 2016 once you have it !
