Nose has ripe blackberry, perfect black cherry, strawberry, tanned leather, moist chocolate cake, dry leaves and a touch of alcohol.
Palate has brown sugar dusted ripe strawberries, over-ripe black cherry, dehydrated strawberry, forest moss and moist soil; medium finish. Decanted 4H at the time of notes.
Paired with Taiwanese Five Spice Pork (Lu Rou Fan | 卤肉饭) over Jasmin rice with lightly fried eggs from our private egg factory in the backyard. Locally raised NY pork (Kinderhook Farm, Valatie, NY), Columbia Co. ❤️
Inaugural vintage. This was shortly after the time Duckhorn acquired Goldeneye and started a massive diversification program, isolating the vineyards into singular bottlings. For better or worse, we only lasted a few more years on vigorous collecting before withdrawal. Pricing was really getting detached from quality IMHO. — 4 hours ago
A full bodied fruit-bomb indeed, but well made and exactly what I wanted with gochujang fire chicken. Ripe red plum, cherry, boysenberry, pennyroyal, underbrush, toast, vanilla and a real peppery kick on the finish (not alcohol heat, but legit pepper). This wine was way too dense upon release, but 3 years later it has developed really nice depth and big time velvety tannins. A cab drinker’s Pinot. — 11 days ago
Earthy, medium bodied, wonderful — 3 months ago
Blend of 89% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc, splash of Petit Verdot & Malbec, deep Ruby with aromas of berry fruit, spice and earthy notes. On the palate flavors of blackberry and cherry fruits, baking spices, cacao and earthy notes. Fine tannins, opened nicely, long finish ending with notes of berry fruits espresso, vanilla, mineral oaky tones and earthy spice. Nice, will age well!! — 25 days ago
