This Delectable Boulder Falls Cabernet is similar in flavor (strong) to the 2012 Delectus Bear Crossing but so much smoother and more balanced. This is a California-style Cabernet Sauvignon that is very strong and designed to be consumed only with steak or lamb. There is no subtlety to this wine and it lacks complexity and earth, tobacco, tar, or leather flavors but it is a well-made if straightforward Cabernet Sauvignon — a year ago

Wow. For those of you who remember Delectus wines, this is the first vintage of Gerhard Reisacher’s new operation in Knight’s Valley...and it is a winner. Intense aromas of cassis, black currant, and bittersweet chocolate, this has a rich, full-bodied mouthfeel, sweet and perfectly integrated tannins, and a long, elegant finish. Easily on par with the best wines he ever made at Delectus, if you liked those wines then you’ve got to try this! — 5 years ago

So, I’m of the opinion that Gerhard Reisacher’s sweet spot is Cabernet Franc. This 2009 isn’t quite as good as his 2007 - that is the best 100% cab franc I’ve ever had - but this is damn close. No trace of the bell pepper you typically get from people picking the fruit too early, this is a terrific wine with notes of something reminiscent of roasted chipotle pepper, black pepper, and currant. Medium-to-full bodied palate with a silky, mouthfilling feel leading to a lingering finish. This is nothing like a cab franc from The Loire - pure California - but a terrific wine nonetheless. Winemakers would do well to take lessons from Gerhart on how to handle this varietal. — 5 years ago
