Barossa Shiraz

Smells of dark things

Tastes of Dark things - tar, cigar, eucalyptus, old worn leather, blackberry roll up, more of that menthol, well integrated tannin, and slap happy High alcohol.

Vine Hill Ranch

Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Second zoom tasting, this time with master sommelier Hak Soo Kim of Per Se. Chris Blanchard nailed the description with the line “velour not silk.” But Hak Soo stoke the show by matching the wine with his operatic voice. — 3 years ago

Mt. Brave

Mt. Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Done right good juice. Chris Carpenter makes great wine. Full mouth feel with long finish. Dark fruit and cocoa dominate the pallet. Great tannin structure. Would go for another decade plus — 4 years ago

Hammell Wine Alliance

True Believer California Red Blend 2013

My first time trying this wine after hearing about it for so long. Made by the vineyard manager of the famed Bien Nacido vineyard, Chris Hammell.

Clocking in at roughly 50 Grenache/25 Syrah/10 Mourvèdre/10 PS and the rest viognier, this toes the line between SQN/Andremily vibes and serious Paso (Saxum). It sports all of the luxurious fruit but no trace of stems or spice. From start to finish, this is a meaty wine, but not funky. Ripe dark fruits, smoked meat, bit of violets/floral tones. At almost 10yrs, it’s fairly integrated showing dark fig, roasted blackberries, spiced ripe black cherries toward the finish. Bull-in-the-china shop type GSM, but it meets you in the middle if you love big central coast style or Paso. Pop and enjoy.

Willamette Valley Pinot Gris 2018

“Chris makes a dazzling comeback with this rendition of his Pinot Gris, a follow-up to his highly-rated 2017 PG that took Gold at the San Francisco Wine Competition. Chris’s second round is seriously refreshing and bursting with tangy lemon, ripe peach and juicy melon that make this wine a little too easy to sip and even harder to put down. The wine blends grapes from three top-tier vineyards across the Willamette Valley giving it complex layers of flavors and aromas. Chill, open, and enjoy. It is an easy drinker on its own, but also has enough structure to pair with almost any food. Especially great with a roasted fresh picked beet salad, or spicy Thai food.” – Naked Wines — 3 years ago

Bodegas Alto Moncayo

Veraton Garnacha 2015

A joint venture of Jorge Ordonez, Bodegas Borsao and Chris Ringland, located in the town of Bulbuente (Zaragoza) Spain. Alto Moncayo is the flagship of the winery. A single-grape variety of Garnacha, from vines between 40 and 70 years old, aged in new barrels for 20 months. Bold aromas of fruit and spice. On the palate black fruit flavors, rich and full-bodied, with complex spice. Fine tannins, savory, good structure ending with a smoky character. Very nice! — 3 years ago
