Dark purple/ruby in color with a reddish rim and medium intensity.
Strong nose of cherries, red currants, bitter herbs, earth, vegetables, light thyme, wood, spices, black tea and peppercorn.
Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity.
Very dry on the palate with currants, sour cherries, tangy strawberries, light oak, spices, earth, bitter herbs, tobacco leaf, bitter vegetables and peppercorn.
Medium finish with round tannins and tangy pomegranates.
This is a nice Italian Sangiovese.
Tangy and spicy. Showing mild complexity with a nice mouthfeel.
Still young and would be better in 5 years. Needs a couple of hours to open up properly and bring the tannins to play. The high alcohol is nicely integrated, so watch out.
A good food wine that will pair nicely with pizza.
100% Sangiovese grapes were grown at 1,500 feet of elevation and aged for 18 months in French oak barrels. Kosher and not Mevushal.
15% alcohol by volume.

Predictably, very tight right now, but opening slowly. Intensely peppery at first, scaring me that the heat of the year would be the predominant characteristic, but it’s receding a bit and allowing the dried cherry fruit and balsamic spice to come through.
UPDATE: Night 2 this wine has become surprisingly scorchy and a bit bitter. I’m leaving the score as is, but this negative development in only 24 hours suggests that this is for early drinking. — 15 days ago
Made with fruit from Tignanello estate, mostly Sangiovese with a splash of Cab Sauv, aged in French and Hungarian oak for 12 months. Deep Ruby with aromas of red and ripe black fruits with notes of floral and sweet spices. On the palate flavors of ripe black cherry, blackberry and currants with cacao, tobacco and vanilla oak. Firm rich tannins, long finish, warm ending with fruit, toasty vanilla and earthy minty tobacco. Good now but will improve over next 5 years. — 4 days ago
Definitely old school in style. Lean, structured. Nose has zingy ripe/sour cherry, lots of minerally gravel. Savory, high acid, and some uncompromisingly sour cherry fruit in the mouth. Tannins soft. Calls out for a meaty ragu. Will tenderize a bit over the next couple of years. — 13 hours ago
Medium Ruby with aromas of red fruits, floral and sweet spice. On the palate flavors of cherry, currant and raspberry with notes of tobacco, tar and banking spices. Firm tannins, vivid acidity, medium finish ending with fruit and cedar spice. Drink now, can short-term age as well! — 11 days ago
Fontodi is located in the heart of Chianti Classico. One of Italy's elite red grape varieties, Sangiovese has the perfect mix of bright red fruit and earthiness found in the best red wines of Tuscany. This dry smooth velvety wine with hints of green olives mixed with black cherry delivers plenty of character. Great finish with a delicious tannin bite. An excellent wine for drinking today and setting several cases aside for future enjoyment. — 2 days ago
