Chianti Classico

Cantine Bonacchi

Riserva Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2013

Cherry and almond nose, very intense. The palate is very well made. There is a strong acid frame and a very lovely fruit all along. It's round, with a nice width, some matter, it's not so simple. Tannins kick in in mid palate inbetween a spherical palate and balance a bit a mouthfeel on the sweeter side. A slight drying effect leaves quickly way to a rather long cherry finish. It's well made, it's on the sweeter side but it's perfect for a Sunday afternoon 😁🍷 — 2 days ago

Another solid ‘85 down the hatch!! Great red fruit character and silky smooth, not much austerity and funk. A true delight! — 10 days ago

Castellare di Castellina

Chianti Classico Sangiovese 2018

Delectable Wine

The 2018 Chianti Classico is an absolutely joyous wine. Bright red cherry fruit, tangy acids and sweet floral notes all run a translucent, super-expressive Chianti Classico that quite frankly knocks it out of the park. The 2018 is so delineated, so vibrant and just so incredibly delicious. The purity of the flavors is just remarkable. The oak needs a bit of time to fully integrate, but it already has over the last few months. This is what Sangiovese (called Sangioveto here) and Chianti Classico are all about. Best of all, the 2018 is a screaming value. Don't miss it. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, September 2020) — 4 days ago

Chianti Classico Sangiovese 2015

I love the ripe richness here. Mouth-filling with cooked and macerated black cherries and plums, perhaps something a bit blue fruited too, all wound up with leathery, warm spices, lemon zinger tea, and savory brett. Underneath menthol, crushed flowers, herbs and forest notes add dimension along with black pepper. Rather ample on the mid-palate, the acidity and pronounced dust minerality still bring it all back to Chianti Classico for me. On a side, I think cooperage selection is absolutely on point, very well made on that front, great integration of tannin and barrel character, almost melting into the wine. — 8 days ago

Fattoria di Fèlsina Berardenga

Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2015

Very complex for a non-Riserva. Nose has macerated cherry, roasted green herbs, loads of crushed stone-rich gravel, and a light savory balsamic note. Savory and intense, it’s got good acidity and cling. Hella good CC. — 8 days ago

Castello di Bossi

Riserva Berardo Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2009

Also excellent. Tighter, darker, than the Monsanto, but just as good. More earthy. — 6 days ago

Riserva Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2016

Delectable Wine

The 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva is wonderfully fleshy and expressive, and yet has plenty of structural underpinnings. Dark cherry, plum, spice, menthol, licorice and mocha open up with a bit of air. The balance of fruit depth allied to a mid-weight sense of structure is just compelling. Readers will find a potent, bruising Riserva with tons of character. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, September 2020) — 4 days ago

Podere il Palazzino

Argenina Chianti Classico Sangiovese 2016

Delectable Wine

The 2016 Chianti Classico Argenina is fabulous. Dark cherry, gravel, sage, mint and leather bring out the darker side of Sangiovese in a Chianti Classico that captures all the pedigree of this great vintage. The 2016 is intense in the glass, and yet retains so much Sangiovese translucence. $24.00 (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, September 2020) — 8 days ago

Castello di Monsanto

Il Poggio Riserva Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 1977

I am sooo impressed with this. Granted, we bought and brought it right from the winery (stored in their cellar for all these years); but, for me, this has been unlike any older vintage I have had to date. It was so smooth and elegant and still so complex. It kept evolving and shifting in just the short time we spent together (from an initial nose that hinted at age to toasted almond to a hint of Port to snapped tree branches) and left me wondering who it really is—what it was in its prime—and, inevitably, wanting more. — 17 days ago
