Black fruit and tobacco. — 3 months ago
I’m between 91-92 here. Wonderful summer pairing next to the Supernova bubbles!
87zin/13petite sirah. This has everything you want in a Zinfandel but dialed back with class. I’m shocked there is this much PS because even at 11yrs, it’s not overly dark/chocolate driven/black pepper spiced. Seductive aromatics of violets, black cherry, mixed berry pie. Great acidity for a Zinfandel. Cedar, spiced red and black berry fruits. Drinking at peak. If you love elegant zin, you’re hard pressed to find a better one. A perfect wine for our TX bbq. — 5 months ago
Really enjoyed this new world GV. This is my first white varietal from this producer. In most cases I have drank Mike’s Zinfandel. This shows that he can also make very good whites. It was a pleasure to drink. — 7 months ago
Something awkward about this. Good fruit and structure though. — a month ago
Interesting to taste a Californian Syrah in Australia - a style you don’t often see in bottle shops. I actually bought this bottle in Juuls Wine Shop in Copenhagen several years ago. The wine had a hint of vanilla on nose and palate initially. Earthy with blackberry and herbs - a little sweet (milk chocolate) finishing with silky tannins. Picked from my cellar on the basis of a Thomas Matthews drinking window (2019 to 2024) which is too soon. The winery said 2020 to 2032 which is probably too long. It is definitely an inexact science. — 4 months ago
Drinking very nicely now. Decant an hour prior to drinking. — 2 months ago
What a wonderful wine. Dark ink. David said he noticed a little brown edge on it. It has aged magnificently. Much fruit left after nearly 20 years. Good acidity and tannin. Still at or close to its peak. A privilege. — 4 months ago
Ripe, rich dark purple juicy juice. These wines need a couple years to lose their baby fat and integrate the alcohols, tannins, and abundant fruit. But California Zin rarely drinks better. Ripe blackberry, black cherry, hints of stem, touch of oak masquerading as tobacco and leather. Long, smooth finish. Only a handful of California winemakers approach this level.
