Argiano

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2019

2019 vintage. PNP'd. Medium-heavy body. Lots of extraction and fruit along with corresponding tannic presence. Youthful but still in balance as we speak. A bit aggro as far as Brunello styles go but backing up the hype. Need to revisit in a half-decade after this has a kid and has to settle down and get a job that pays the bills. 10.22.24. — 2 years ago

Château Pavie Macquin

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2000

After @Bill Bender posted his review I needed to try it,
3 hour decant and actually the last glass at the 5 hour mark was even better, lost some of the nose though.

Toasted a Bills’ victory over Miami with this beauty. Probably would have been a wee bit better a year or two ago, but still a wonderful example of sparkling winemaking at its best. — 4 years ago

Château Laforge

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2006

Château Laforge consists of a 5.8 hectare vineyard in Saint-Emilion that is planted to 92% Merlot and 8% Cab Franc. The Estate was actually accumulated over time by the local blacksmith with vines appropriated in lieu of unpaid bills. I’ve never heard of such an arrangement, but if one such as that exists in Napa Valley, consider me the newest blacksmith in town.

At twelve years old, the 2006 still shows plenty of grip. Fortunately, it’s not in lieu of flavor nor complexity. Plum, tobacco, and olive meet the savoriness of underbrush, sage, and cedar, with spice box and clove interspersed throughout.
