Amarone della Valpolicella Corvina Blend 2009

Deep Ruby with aromas of dried fruits, savory spices and smoky notes. On the palate sweet plum and cherry flavors, savory, with citrus, licorice, pepper & cacao. Soft tannins, chewy on long finish, great balance with acidity, nice mouthfeel, ending with an oaky character. — 3 months ago

Still a nice bottle, sour crush although a bit light the palette. Expecting a bit more. — 4 months ago

Just gorgeous - inky dark brooding, gobs of blackberry but more black cherry mingled with licorice (more anise), medicinal, forest floor, raisins & prunes. Silky sexy viscous fat across mid palate and then off to lingering echoing finish. Just wanted a bit more acidity thru finish, but for the age, relieved it showed so well. — 3 months ago

Secco-Bertani Vintage Edition Valpolicella Corvina Blend 2015

Before airing, nose was weird and furniture-like. But things normalized quickly. This is one of the more complex non-Ripasso Valpos out there (yes, I know it’s not officially DOC). Nose has bitter cherry, almond, tilled soil (almost like the smell of just-pulled carrots). Great balance, fruit and acid in abundance, soft mouthfeel, lighter weight. Tannins resolved. Bone dry. Finish is minerally and savory. Would work with a wide range of Italian food. I should note that the back label states that this was made in accordance with a 19th century traditional technique, including aging in chestnut and cherrywood barrels. — 3 months ago

Perhaps that contributed to the bitter cherry- almond flavors?

Recioto della Valpolicella Amarone Classico Superiore Corvina Blend 2006

Cherry cola. I drank this over several hours. In the end is the true flavor. Dry cherry cola. I totally enjoyed because theater are much more complexity. Very fruit forward. Cherry. But finish is sweet dry and smooth. I enjoyed this wine. — 7 months ago
