Meursault Chardonnay 2019

Peach, lemon curd, green herbs, round and rich. On opening I thought this was a bit flat and soft, but it has come into its own after a couple of hours of air 👌 — 7 months ago

Monthly WTF guys blind tasting group. This month was our annual, and famed, Left Bank vs Right Bank theme. All wines served blind as usual. Started off with a Rosé and a champagne. Great night.

Not familiar with this producer. This was surprisingly quite tannic. Graphite, underripe red and black fruits with a softness in the middle. I called this ‘08 Right Bank. Thanks

Le Porusot Meursault 1er Cru Chardonnay 2013

Savory, salty, pear, Fuji apple and some ripe citrus with a light hazelnut toast on the nose, the palate is sharper, good acidity, could use a little more, a med/med+ body, med+ length of the finish. Maybe it's the 13 vintage that lacks just a little energy that 12/14 has. Still very enjoyable at almost 10, has probably another 3-5 years. — 12 days ago

Bodegas y Viñedos Artazu

Santa Cruz de Artazu Garnacha 2016

This is the Artazu Pasos de San Martin Navarra, a varietal Garnacha. A bit sleepy before it gets air, it gradually Benjamin Buttons and develops a terrifically pure nose of kirsch and raspberry ooze, along with crushed rock dust and sandalwood. In the mouth it’s got intense fruit, but is laser-focused and has excellent acids. Zero flab.
Just enough tannin to package it all. Really nice rendition of Grenache.

Though not the same as it was pre-COVID -19, a handful of us were able to gather (while keeping our distance) to celebrate being back together and opened some fun wines to share. Wine is always better with good company.

Here’s one you don’t see very often. Tiny producer who has a track record of doing magical things with this vineyard. This falls in to the hedonistic type bucket. My first glass was like smelling a freshly baked mixed berry pie being pulled out of the oven. Dark chocolate, Andes mint, baking spices, charcoal and sandalwood jump from the glass as well. It was both elegant but rich on the palate. Decidedly dark fruit driven on the palate (less of the red fruit profile I typically get from GIII vineyard) as well as lavender, plum and currant. Lengthy finish that is delicious but still very youthful. Thanks for opening
