Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2000

Stunning bottle! Far less dark and brooding than 2006, the uber rare 2000 Montepulciano is elegant, seamless and impeccably detailed. It’s layered with crazy depth of aromatics that soar flaunting BBQ spice, espresso, dried flowers and red fruit. It has off the charts complexity and a wild untamed nature to its expression that is as intriguing as it comes. The palate is precise, pure and balanced with a stunningly elegant texture and incredible length. Masterful wine. — 19 days ago

May I ask where did you have it?
Is it at La Gatta Mangiona?? Chez Giancarlo?

@Ceccherini Cristiano I had it at “Trattoria La Gatta” via Bellaria / Bologna (which I believe it’s the second place you mentioned).

Unfortunately I am not that good
I just saw that "La gatta" on the wine list and thought that Giancarlo owner of La Gatta mangiona" was likely to have that wine on the list, but not necessarily, I just wondered so I thought to ask
I know that at Roscioli in Rome they used to work with Valentini sfuso and I never got the chance to taste it though . I will make it happen one day, by now I am just a little jealous 😜😜
I am so far away that isn't gonna happen for a while 😭😭

I get this typical aged chardonnay scent on the nose (which it is not obviously), combined with the horse stable smell at my parents 😛
Turbent deep yellow. Very round on the palate, no sharp edges and low acidity. Can use some additional cellar time to gain more complexity

Tasted at the winery. Still a baby- tanic, with good potential — 4 years ago

Very interesting glass to follow up to the valentini. Skin contact gives it weight and texture. Medium to full bodied. Tasty — 5 years ago

Vigna di Milo Etna Carricante 2014

Probably should've had this before the valentini. So cut and clean that it felt a bit small by contrast. But quite enjoyable nonetheless. — 5 years ago

Deep red fruit. Plums and underbrush, violet and smoky notes. Restrained but still intense. Rounded. Excellent. — 2 months ago

Don’t think I’ve ever even seen one of these in the wild. Just in Nat Geo photos.

Massa Vecchia

Maremma Toscana IGT Rosato 2018

1630 bottles produced
Old school natural wine
Niccolaini was the avant-garde of the movement without ever being in it himself.
I got told stories of a farm with no electricity perhaps a decade ago or so
Massa Vecchia is appreciated for all its labels and you can find out which one is your favourite
Personally i am not a rose drinker, but i knew i wasn't going to be disappointed here
This is more like a Valentini cerasuolo d'Abruzzo, but even more extract, i dare to say if you sell this wine for a red nobody would argue.
It's funky to start, it gives you cola and china and its fresh and fun, plus very long and mineral.
Quite earthy perhaps not a precise fruit to define, but real good altogether
For my understanding this is the last vintage made by Niccolaini' daughter in law as a winemaker and i keep a bottle of the next vintage..i am very curious to how he has come back to his captain seat.

@Ira Schwartz perhaps Ariento top
It changed my point of view on the vermentino grape and the natural white wine altogether, but that was a while ago, I'd say if i recall well the 2007 version. I was told(i haven't tasted😔) that the last few vintages made by Francesca Sfondrini were a little oakier, but i trust Niccolaini being back to adjust that.

Someone once told me I could be very cool if I drank Valentini. Apparently they were wrong about that, but not about the wines. This is one of the most complex and enjoyable Rosé/Rosato wines I've had. Great texture, fruit, minerality and finish. — 5 years ago
