Aghavnadzor Dry White Wine 2018

Ming L
8.9

My first Armenian wine with varieties that are totally foreign to me. Putting Hobbs on the label certainly convinces me to give it a try.
Aromas of apricot, tangerine, thyme, and subtle but noticeable oxidized notes of bruised apple and hazelnut (skin contact?). Sharp acidity pierced through a rich palate that at times feels heavy. Medium finish with light mineral notes. Quite unique.

Dry Areni Wine

Tart, savory fruit - light body. WHAT a funky nose! Slightly gamey & pungent aroma. — 10 months ago

Zulal

Vayots Dzor Areni 2018

The 2018 Zulal Areni is a testament to the purity of Armenia's indigenous grapes. With a bouquet of red cherries, plums, and a hint of pepper, it offers an aromatic experience. Its medium body is balanced by a refreshing acidity, revealing concentrated flavors of cranberries and spices on the palate. Paired with a mushroom-based chicken pot pie, the wine's vibrant notes complemented the dish phenomenally. 9 captures the delightful experience this wine offers. Would definitely revisit. — a month ago

Voskehat Dry White 2020

Clear pale yellow with crisp flavors of pear and honeysuckle with a hint of creaminess and strong minerality. This aromatic wine with its high acid, medium bod and clean but long finish is something I would definitely revisit again and again. This is a varietal and region worth continued exploration. — a month ago

Ararat Valley Haghtanak 2016

My first Armenian wine. Made with Haghtanak grape, a Soviet-era hybrid between Armenian varietals and Georgian Saperavi. From vineyards in the Ararat Valley, 35 km west of Yerevan. Fermented in steel tanks and aged 7 months in Caucasian oak barrels. Dark ruby/purple color. Dark fruit, vanilla and oak on the nose. Some herbal notes. Full-bodied, big, quite bold and round on the palate. Pomegranate flavors. Tannic. Good value — 2 years ago
