Compelling and racy.
Vibrant, tense and laser-focused. Piercing acidity which just stops short of overwhelming. This is a model of consistency across vintages. — 5 months ago
Blackberry, cherry, spices, jalapeño, even smoky chipotle aromas — 3 months ago
Smells like blackberry and calendula (a sort of amber/herbal flavor) - or perhaps it is echinacea. Definite licorice. Tastes as it smells - licorice, herbs, dark berries, lovely mouthfeel. Some chocolate. This is really good. Not my favorite style, but a good example. Good deal! Reminds me a bit of the much higher rated, much more expensive (MUCH more expensive) Aperture cabernet. — 8 months ago
I have been curious and interested in trying Aperture for a bit now. @Ron R recent posting and rating convinced me to acquire a bottle. He was spot on. There’s a salinity that’s unique and delicious. The body and acidity are harmonious. My only regret was not buying more. — 2 years ago
Another stop during our Sonoma visit Saturday was Aperture wines (Jesse Katz). The new tasting room and winery is located right outside Healdsburg. The modern architecture and vineyard patio made for a really nice tasting experience. I have always enjoyed the Aperture Cab (Cab, Merlot, Malbec blend), but the Del Rio stepped everything up a notch. 100% Cab Sauv. This wine is full bodied and powerful. The winemaker describes as “Consistently floral year over year with dried juniper lavender, blackberry preserve, olive tapenade, and cassias. The mountain hillside tannins frame this wine with incredible weight while still holding onto its bright elegance, Multiple layers of ripe raspberries, blueberry, and cherry-cola complimented by dried herbs,
and graphite that build on the palate to arrive at a long, mineral-driven finish.

Douro in the house. A light red that really opens up the aperture for chicken, Mediterranean pasta dishes. — a year ago

Very lean on the nose, red rocks and Syrah-like olive tapenade. Brambly black fruit, vanilla (a hint, would never guess it’s 100% new oak), a core of cassis. Tannins are still quite grippy. — a month ago
