Hundred Acre Vineyard

Fortunate Son "The Warrior" Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Deep purple in color with a reddish rim.

Fruity nose of blackberries, black currants, black plums, cooked cherries, dried figs, light earth, cedar, black tea, light vanilla, tobacco leaf and black pepper.

Full-bodied, bold and elegant, with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate and fruit forward with cedar, light vanilla, blackberries, black currants, cooked cherries, spices, chocolates, black coffee, tobacco leaf, black tea, licorice, black pepper and peppercorn.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This 7 year old Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley is starting to drink very nicely now, although still young. Concentrated and extracted.

Good right out of the bottle, and better after a few hours of airtime.

Wine Advocate 95 points.

This Cabernet Sauvignon from the house of Hundred Acre is still young, and needs 5 years in the bottle to mature properly. Fruit forward, very complex and elegant.

Will continue to age nicely in the next 15 years. Has good potential to become a 95+ point wine.

Gorgeous by itself as a sipping wine, and will also pair nicely with a big piece of steak.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were aged in new French Oak barrels for 30 months.

15.5% alcohol by volume.

93 points.

Langi Shiraz 2008

From the cellar - a little too cold on this cold night. More spice than the usual white and black pepper. Dried meat. See previous Delectable notes. An incredible Show Record:- Good Wine Guides Best Shiraz and Wine of the Year in 2011 - 98 points from Nick Stock. Giving more on the 2nd night. Incredible length of flavour - goes on and on. This has always been one of my favourite Australian Red Wines and I have tried to buy it on a regular basis but it has become very expensive (over $200) - no doubt because of its impeccable quality. Northern Rhone in style. Only 400 cases made. — 2 years ago

Pale yellow. Expressive nose is ripe, honeyed, smoked and wooly. In the mouth, it’s fresh and precise, with green apple and pear, underlying saltiness and a crisp, mineral finish. Lovely, elegant Chenin Blanc from schist, aged one year in 400-liter older barrels. (Jason Wilson, Vinous, July 2020)

Greer

Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

2010 Greer Cabernet Sauvignon from Rutherford, Napa Valley. 4 hour decant, deep crimson hued, this wine has a killer explosive nose of dark fruits, cinnamon, baking spices, menthol and flint. Chocolate covered cherries, cocoa and espresso mid palate, with a touch of nutmeg. Moderate trademark Rutherford dusty tannins in just the right proportion. Dense and concentrated. Beautifully layered with a silky mouth feel, and a lingering finish. In this age of $400-$500+ Napa Cabs, this wine takes a back seat to none of them. I’m a fan. You da man Rob Greer! — 8 years ago

Brut Rosé Champagne 2008

#AgedWineTuesday

HURRICANE PARTY

Pale salmon in color.

Light nose of citrus, strawberries, earth, light herbs and minerals.

Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity and small bubbles.

Dry on the palate with raspberries, light cherries, limes, green apples, light grapefruits, minerals and herbs.

Long finish with limes and light almonds.

This is a delicious Rosé Champagne. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel.

This 16 year old is showing nice complexity at this point. Feels still young and very fresh. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years.

I've had this vintage a few times before, and it is very consistent.

A delicious Champagne that’s perfect for sipping on its own. Will also pair nicely with fresh seafood.

12.5% alcohol by volume.

Enjoyed this somewhat exotic wine. Recommended by a sommelier at a wine shop. Apparently the grape was assumed extinct for 400 years until it was discovered growing on someone’s property in the 1980s. Taste is akin to a Nebbiolo. Blueberry and blackberry on the nose. Bright berries with balanced acidity and dryness. Would love to have again. — 5 years ago

The palate is; rich, lush, round, waxy and elegantly smooth. Excellent viscosity. Glorious as it slips over the beautiful mouthfeel. Sour lemons, green apple, overripe pineapple, kiwi, lime pulp & candy, pear, white peach, apricots, peach, guava, topical melons, beeswax, candle wax, honeysuckle, vanillin, creamy butter, fresh herbs, caramel, subtle chalkiness, sea fossils, saline, limestone, grey volcanics, the lemon in Lemon Pledge, green grass, dry straw, glazed, brown butter with fruit blossoms, yellow lilies, jasmine & spring flowers. The acidity is; round, phat & lively. The finish is; polish, rich, lush, balance fruit & earth and has no hiccups. Great wire to wire.

Photos of; one of their Vineyards, Benoît Droin tasting through his wines & Domaine Jean-Paul & Benoît Droin,

Producer notes; The Droins have been producing wines in Chablis for nearly 400 years (their history as vignerons goes back at least to 1620). Benoît is the 14th generation guardian.

The Domaine has 13 hectares of vineyards and produces 14 different wines, including Petit Chablis, Chablis, 7 Premiers Crus and 5 Grand Crus. They prune specific to each vineyard. The wines are fermented differently by vineyard.

All their wines are fermented in mature oak. The Blanchots are all fermented and matured in tank. Vaillons, Mont de Milieu and Montée de Tonnerre receive 25 per cent of barrel fermentation and maturation, 35 per cent for Vosgros and Vaudésir, 40 per cent for Montmains and Valmur, peaking at 50 per cent for Fourchaume, Grenouilles and Les Clos. However the age of the oak and the choice of tonnelier may vary according to the cuvée. The maximum new oak is ten per cent in the Grand Crus.

Thank you David, I had the chance to visit this domaine in 2018 and I am a big fan of their wines. It is quite a wonderful visit with Benoit who is very knowledgeable and passionate where one can appreciate the different terroirs and character of each of their wines.

I think most are wrong about this wine. The carbonic is well integrated so that it can cellar for short stint. My bottle has been open for a couple days allowing it to breathe and come to life. Completely under rated — 6 months ago

WS: 93. Suave and harmonious, with a firm frame of fine-grained tannins married to ripe black and red currant fruit, iron and ash, anise, black tea leaf and citrus peel notes. This expands on the palate and through the long, mouthwatering finish. Drink now through 2035. 950 cases made, 400 cases imported.

Mataro 2012

Am always in admiration of anyone who has undertaken and achieved the Master of Wine qualification. It involves years of studying and tasting the wines of the world with a high possibility of failure. There are I believe less than 400 MWs in the world. Andrew Caillard who made this wine is an MW. His daytime job is with Langtons - Australia’s top wine auction house. He also has the skill and the time to hand paint the art for each Vintage of Mataro label. As to the Wine itself - 100% Mataro (Mourvèdre) from old vines in the Barossa. Very dark crimson with a tawny rim. Aromas of dusty blackberry, plum and herbs. Medium to full bodied with savoury blackberry coming through on the palate but essentially still dense and self contained with years in front of it. Next in a year or so. — 7 years ago
