Very nice. Tannins are not well integrated for the age. Still developing but almost there 3-5years at most. Has some fresh ripe fruit, but mainly tertiary notes: ripe cherry, earthy, wet forest floor, cedar notes and mushrooms. Goes perfectly with the duck. — 9 years ago

Mixed feelings: tannins are not quite integrated but the primary aromas are shutting down already. I'd say give it 3 more years to peak and you'll love it. Other than that — dark dark cherry, paint thinner, wet leaves and some dried mushrooms. Delicious and bright!
Had one recently from 2005 and a much older one decades ago - pre Delectable! Always been a fan.

That's awesome. I've been fortunate enough to have a Quilceda Creek from 87', but this is like Napa Cabernet from the 60s (or maybe 50s).

@Blorg no, this was my first older Ampeau, but I doubt I can write that off as a stylistic thing — the bottle was waaay over the hill. I have another one, will see if that had better luck.
