Nose was super-candied cherry right out the gate and then got a little shyer with air. The cherry got a bit deeper and sultry, accompanied by a gorgeous and increasing moist gravelly earthiness and a bit of spice. Not heavy, but surprisingly extracted in the mouth, with a lot of tannin. Very savory and long, with a growing bitter note in the finish. Better with food than a solo sipper.

WillaKenzie Estate is located in Oregon's Willamette Valley in the Chehalem Mountains. The winery was named after the Willakenzie soil on which the vineyards are planted to convey the influence that the soil imparts on the wine's flavors and aromas. Deep Ruby with aromas of fresh red fruits and spice notes. On the palate blackberry and cherry with cacao and pepper spice. Tight tannins requiring decanting. Well balanced with good acidity on lingering finish with an oaky earthy ending.

Cherry, raspberry, cranberry, currant, vanilla, baking spice, oak and whiffs of white pepper. Great structure and well-integrated tannins.

For whatever reason I was getting a super herbal flavors from this Pinot the night we popped it open. Good all the way around though. I need to give it another try con comida.
