Dang this is tasty, especially with the devils affogato that I'm eating at current. Loads of nuttiness, coffee, fig jam, saline. Beautiful texture and not at all cloying. I hate to toot my own horn (my wife will tell you "no you don't..") but this pairing was freakin amazing.

A nice little pour after dinner. A better than decent Malmsey.

First time trying a Madeira. Paired with cherry and blueberry pie soaked in bourbon. Wow

While I tend to prefer a bit less sweetness, there is a lot of depth here with toasted nuts and caramel and coffee and a loooonnnggg finish

It's Malmsey, so the roasted nuts and carmel are a given, but the bright orange zest and marmalade really bring it in to it's own. The flavor's just keep coming until there's a nutmeg quality that ends with the nice, warm burn of the 19% ABV. This is the Armagnac of Wine.

NO birthday is complete without some fortified wine from Portugal. This one makes its way from the island of Madeira. Insanely complex the aroma and flavor so are roasted mixed nuts, caramel, orange peel, sea salt, prosciutto and licorice. Excellent acidity on the weightless, though crazy long finish. #newyork #madeira @Rare Wine Co.

My first note on the Rare Wine Company New York Malmsey was, “Oh, the nose!” That is still what I think every time I have some. The amber color looks a lot like whiskey, and the nose is all raisins, burnt caramel and brown sugar. Those appear on the palate, too, but in a very dry form - not what the nose seems to promise. The mouth is full and the finish is very long.
