A profound young Preuses. Decanted 90 minutes in advance, and only to improve in every facet as each minute passes during dinner, 2020 Preuses is a tremendous success and already showing so much of its brilliance. It’s aromatics are layered with ultra defined orchard fruit, white flowers and citrus oils with an oceanic edge and the palate is concentrated, mineral and focused with considerable tension, drive and a racy mineral-saline finale. Stunning wine with an amazing future.

Even more giving than the last time I had 17 nearly one year ago, it’s rocking right off the bat tonight showing tremendous power and intensity in its layers of clean orchard fruit, crushed oyster shells, savory algae and citrus blossoms. It’s so concentrated, detailed and laser focused and it continued to evolve texturally, gaining so much weight and expanding on the palate before a finish that just keeps going. Simply electric, and one of the absolute greats of the vintage.

Decanted an hour before serving, but it was the 2 hour mark where it explodes showing tremendous power and intensity in its layers of clean orchard fruit, crushed oyster shells, savory algae and citrus blossoms. An absolutely profound young Preuses. 2019 is a magical rendition, utterly brilliant tonight with ridiculous intensity, power and verve. It’s layered with intense aromatics of ripe orchard fruit, citrus blossoms and crushed oyster shells. It’s both rich and mineral, with killer concentration and a stunningly elegant texture and a saline-mineral laced finish for dayzzz. Perfection.

Medium gold color but still youthful looking. Heavy in the glass. Tropical fruit forward nose. Notes of sweet lemons, ripe kiwi, white flowers, lemon pie filling and some gravel. Rich and glycerol in the mouth. Fine grained acidity yields a good backbone to stand up to the fruit. Needed a few hours to open up. Good stuff!

Almost a year to the date from my last 07 Preuses from Dauvissat. I love this classic vintage for Dauvissat. After sufficient aeration which it definitely needed, 2007 Preuses is excellent tonight with an incredible combination of power and elegance and terroir expression, undeniably Preuses. With air it gains in weight, precision and most notably in vibrancy, electric on the palate by the end of the night. It flaunts a complex and layered bouquet of lemon cream pie, beeswax, lavender honey and an algae-like savoriness. The palate is pure, textural and vibrant with racy lemony acids and a long saline driven finish. A perfect example of why we love aged Chablis!

Decanted for 3 hours. Canary gold color. Bright and fresh. Fruit forward nose. Notes of lemon curd, white peach, sea shells, wet river stone and tan spice. Very luscious in the mouth. More fruit than acidity. This went quickly as the team tonight was thirsty.

Lanolin, cheese, sour lemon. Chalk. A little less delicious than some others I’ve has.

After having the 2014 Clos just a couple weeks back, it was nice to be able to have the Preuses close in time and compare the two. Both equally as stunning in their own ways, the 2014 Preuses may be even more seamless at this point in time. Its energy and intensity radiate on the palate showing tremendous power and drive. There’s the craveable crushed oyster shell minerality and sea spray salinity that’s complimented with an intense citrusy fruit expression and a lemony acid spine. Opens up beautifully in the decanter over the course of the meal continuing to show how terrific the vintage was for Dauvissat and Chablis. Totally built for the long haul but fantastic now as well.

At 6 years young, Dauvissat’s 2015 Preuses is rich and powerful and quick to express its layered core of ripe stone fruits, citrus oils, a crushed oyster shell minerality, damp algae and a sea spray salinity.

It expands on the palate over time, lengthening and intensifying. What’s really impressive in the context of the vintage is the wine’s focus and precision. Its richness and ripeness is really well tamed and its fruit expression is so pure. It’s surely to gain more weight and complexity as it ages, but with sufficient air it’s absolutely a joy to drink now.
