Lots of flavor, but low acids and a bit flabby, like many 18s. Nose shows wet gravel earthiness, dark cherry ooze, a bit of leather. In the mouth it’s ripe and soft, not as vibrant or structured as one usually wants/expects, but doesn’t skimp on flavor. Drink soon.

Basilica Caffaggio is one of the more famous producers located in the Western Sector of Chianti Classico’s Panzano UGA; specifically the middle elevation band of San Martino in Cecione (approx. 300m elevation). The geology is largely shale.
Popped and poured. The 2018 Caffaggio Chianti Classico pours a bright ruby color with a transparent core and a slightly watery rim; medium viscosity. No obvious staining of the tears and no signs of particles or gas. On the nose, the wine is intense. Funky cherry, red flowers, dried earth, bergamot, and minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry and structure is medium+ across the board. The fruits and non-fruits are confirmed with loads of minerals; there is a long savory finish. A very nice Chianti Classico that fits the bill. Drink now or over the next 10 years.

Bright dark raspberry nose. Ooooh! Tight. Gritty. Tight. you need to open this up. not much white rock. A lot of things going on here. Still tight.

Light red. A bit of a pale pink at the meniscus. Smells like red fruit.medium to full bodied. Red fruit tastes. Medium tannins. Notes of strawberry, tomato and herbs, maybe oregano. A bit oaky at the back of the mouth.
