Ty Caton
Caton Vineyard Moon Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon
Nose has that blackberry cab nose. Palate is big blackberry. Maybe a bit boring. Lacks vivacity.

Okay, but not that good. Wouldn’t get again. I’m also not a Cab fan.

Jul 22nd, 2023Most beautiful of plumb reds. Full bodied and smooth. Taste of Blackberry and currant. Sweet smell of plumb and fig. Very complex feel with Smokey backend. Very happy with this Cali Cab. Exactly what I look for from a mountain side vineyard in Sonoma!

Aug 29th, 2022Deep rich fruit against a strong acid backbone. Good now but I think it needs 5 years more on the bottle in good storage to smoothen out some edges. Great deal at Last Bottle though

Apr 8th, 2022Very nice. Smooth and even keel. Pair with a Julia Roberts film- works with both Pelican Brief, Runaway Bride and Pretty Woman. Flexible.

Jan 27th, 2019Released WAY TOO YOUNG. The only thing I can do when I see Moon Mountain is to compare this to a Kamen Cab. And, I just don't think that this one has the bones to compete. Yes, it has a lot of density. Much more full throttle, but this one is just YOUNG. Very acidic, youthful oak barrel finish. Nice blackberry front but just seems a little disjointed. In 5 years, this one will do WELL. Therefore, I feel a little weird rating this wine as I feel that it's just not ready to go yet. Today, I would give it an 87, but I feel that it could be worthy of 93 if it just had some time to hang out in the bottle.
