Trombetta Family Wines
Gap's Crown Vineyard Chardonnay
The wine has a rich, golden hue and shows an absolutely gorgeous oak effect, just enough to put me in mind of classic California Chardonnay. There is tropical fruit, lemon chess pie and caramel in the whiff as well. The palate is where the old world comes into play. The acidity is right on the money, and only a slight touch of vanilla comforts the apples, pineapple and citrus flavors. The wine is very well balanced and shows great weight, the result of malolactic fermentation which occurred in the barrels and aging on the lees - the spent yeast cells. Eight months of aging in French oak was just right. About a third of that oak was new, the rest neutral. Could be the best Chardonnay I've had.

Oct 30th, 201615' Trombetta Gap's Crown Chardonnay. I've purchased a case of the 2014(rarely do) I was so very impressed with the wine. Now I know it's wasn't a fluke. This 15 is just as bad ass as the 14. The nose floral & spice. The palate is so unbelievably balanced, between tropical fruits/ oak- vanilla / acidity. The finish is long & inviting. I'm also guessing between a third & 50% new oak. This bottle won't last long on anyone's table. Highly recommend! Edit- Let it open up in the glass for 30 minutes. Love it!

Aug 28th, 2016This is an extremely impressive #chardonnay with a profound nose that is full of spice, flowers, and perfectly ripened fruit. The palate is tight but just as complex and exciting as the nose. Med + acid, med + alcohol that is well integrated. Oak is present but in an appropriate way. The length was outrageous. #trombettafamilywines #sonomacoast #gapscrown #california #ctbucklinwine

Jul 24th, 201614' Trombetta Gap's Crown Chardonnay. Do you enjoy New World Chardonnay? Do yourself a favor and grab a few bottles. I rarely write about a bottle of wine in the same vintage more than twice. This is the exceptionđź‘Ť.

Mar 24th, 201614' Trombetta Gap's Crown. Medium-golden in color. Trying to find something wrong with this? Tropical fruit on the nose & glass. Perfect amount of oak & acidity. Balance, weight, & finish are almost flawless! Please read the tasting notes from @ Randy Fuller. Thanks Randy.
