So pretty and floral. Meat and earth. On the rustic side

The 2017 Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata is powerful, dense and tightly wound. This is an especially dark, somber wine from a site where Barolos tend to be much more floral and red-toned in their fruit expression. At the same time, the Rocche is less impacted by oak than some of the earlier vintages, which leads me to think all the 2017 needs is time in bottle to unwind. There is a lot here. Smells like cherry juice. Tannic and very bitter.

Certainly young. This isn’t quite as tightly coiled as some young Barolo can be but it’s not exactly relaxed either. Still with a few hours in the decanter it opened up, aromas emerged and it drank nicely. If I had more I’d hold for a while.

Needs time but this is going to be pretty. Rose petal and candied red fruit now with a touch of spice.

Rustic but the candied cherry and tart fruit show. Pretty tasty with a long decant but so much more to come.

2017 vintage. Opened and decanted. Small amount of sed. Tasted after 30 mins and 1.5 hrs. Slightly sweet but lean. Grip came-a-callin on the back end. Light-medium bod with precocious balance. Likely best in 5-6 years but can tackle now without getting absolutely Barolo trucked. 11.28.24.
