Riserva Gattinara Nebbiolo

Solid find in a random midtown wine/liquor store. Nicely structured and tannins not forbidding. Dark cherry, licorice, balsamic, spice and earth tones. And the weird bottle shape is always fun

1971 surprise surprise. Didn’t expect this to show as well. I brought it back from Producer years ago. Reminds me of a great Barolo.

A very nice, earthy, savory Neb. Deeply minerally and dark cherry-ish nose. Rich, dark, and still showing some tannin. Nice acids. Fresher seeming than the last bottle I had of this about a year ago.

A well made Gattinara with everything in balance. A crowd pleaser among a group of California Cabernet lovers.

@Robin Miller makinh introductions to one of his favorite medium bodied Nebbiolos - we're digging it during our first time since returning from the Supermoon. Feels like home at Jackson Fillmore!

The cork crumbled when I opened this so storage (prior to mine) may not have been perfect.

Classic. Nose starts out shy, but after an hour in the decanter it shows ripe cherry, plummy fruit, and a deep-toned earthy gravelly note that marks this as a Novarra area Neb. A bit of sweet baking spice too. Dark berry and cherry fruit in the mouth, with loads of low-toned minerality. Less acid than I expected, but lots of tannin remains. This will keep for several more years, but I'm not sure it will improve. Great now with a decant.

Like a high end Barolo and ripe for drinking now. 15 years old and muddy opaque. Still plenty of tannins. Much more body than what I remember out of a gattinara. Great wine.
