Tenuta Il Poggione
Rosso di Montalcino Sangiovese
Vintage 2015 | elegance and quaffable, but expected a bit more, like good tension | paired with a zucchini oven dish

Sep 23rd, 2022This is a nice and easy drinking Sangiovese from Italy.
Very pretty color of ruby with medium intensity, and a wide red rim.
Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity.
Dry on the palate with a nice mouthfeel.
Showing red currants, cherries, raspberries, spices, light oak, tobacco leaf, earth, dark coffee, black pepper and light vegetables.
Short finish with round tannins and tangy cranberries.
A good quality wine that will continue to age nicely in the next few years.
Wine Enthusiasts 87 Points.
Good right out of the bottle, and calms down a bit after 30 minutes in the glass.
A good food wine.
14% alcohol by volume.
88 points.
$25.

Delicate, savory. Sour cherry, leather. Not the best pizza wine

Apr 14th, 2019Tenuta Il Poggione was founded at the end of 1800 when Lavinio Franceschi, land owner from Florence, decided to visit the area after hearing the stories from a shepherd, who brought his herds around Montalcino during the winter. #46 on Spectator’s 2017 top 100 list. I gave a blind tasting and threw this in with their Brunello, this “Baby Brunello” caused a stir! Red berry bouquet with cherry and citrus flavors, fine soft tannins, medium+ tangy finish ending with earthy spice notes. Great value!
