100% Sangiovese, deep Ruby with aromas of red fruits and floral spice. On the palate ripe strawberry and cherry flavors with citrus, tobacco and earthy spice notes. Fine tannins on a smooth long ending with some mineral tones on the finish. Nice value. Good now has a few years to run.

Tenuta Il Poggione was founded at the end of 1800 when Lavinio Franceschi, land owner from Florence, decided to visit the area after hearing the stories from a shepherd, who brought his herds around Montalcino during the winter. #46 on Spectator’s 2017 top 100 list. I gave a blind tasting and threw this in with their Brunello, this “Baby Brunello” caused a stir! Red berry bouquet with cherry and citrus flavors, fine soft tannins, medium+ tangy finish ending with earthy spice notes. Great value!

Red with an amber rim. Needs 45 minutes of air for some funk to blow off; afterward, there are pleasant notes of dusty black cherry, oily leather, and bing cherry juice. A drying, pleasant finish. 14% abv | sample

Deep red with a clear rim. Lovely leathery aromas of herbs and winter berries, nutmeg, and blackberry tea. It's lean and tannic on the palate, with clear, straight lines. Not one hint of fruity sweetness (grâce à Dieu), but more notes here of green berries and tea. It has a lovely texture—not too drying, not too strident. Overall a great Rosso, and it should be, for the price. 14% abv | $28 (sample)

Slow-ox’d for two hours. Dark cherries, dirt, tea. Delicious Rosso.
