Tenuta delle Terre Nere
Cuvée della Vigne Niche Calderara Sottana Etna Bianco Carricante
Vintage 2019 | from the rather obscure carricante grape, what an effort! Floral smell, seabreeze! Nice bitters. Bought some for cellaring.

Nov 14th, 2021This absolutely rocks. Layers of texture and richness perfectly balanced with zippy volcanic acid.

Jan 12th, 2021Mix of beautiful yellow flower, green/underripe tropical fruits, anise-laden herbs and distinctive minerality. Palate shows its barrel upbringing, adding flesh and richness. You could argue it’s too much, but I think the earth, salty zippy, and herbal notes carry through enough to bring it all together. Underripe pineapple, green papaya, yellow plum, yellow flowers, green almond, fennel fronds, wormwood, salt, crushed rock, malo (?), tea leaves. A serious effort that pays off IMO

May 15th, 2019Wow, this is really very very good!
Yellow flowers, apricot, lemon curd, iodine, lovely touch of almond skin bitterness, good citric acidity, mountanous minerality, saline nuances in the loooong aftertaste. Very complex stuff, and very harmonious and well balanced, too. Stylistically somewhere inbetween a Pessac and a Puligny.
Highly recommended.

There’s an airy and inviting freshness to the 2019 Etna Bianco Calderara Sottana that pulls you close to the glass, as a nuanced display of dusty dried flowers, cardamom, crushed stone and honeyed orchard fruits comes forward over time. It’s silky and seductive on the palate, showing a pretty inner sweetness, with ripe pear giving way to notes of almond as inner florals amass toward the close. Minerals and hints of citrus sizzle throughout the long finale under an enriching air of custard. As beautiful as this is today, it will only get better over time. Simply stunning.
