Hinter der Mauer Central Coast White Blend

Just bottled, the 2022 Hinter der Mauer is stellar. It’s a bit more tropical than it has been in its previous two releases, yet all the elements are impeccably balanced. Orchard fruit, jasmine, mint, tangerine oil and papaya all grace this open-knit, engaging Grüner Veltliner/Riesling blend. $19.00 (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, October 2023)

Super snappy! Green apple, lime, grapefruit pith, white pepper, wet stones. High acid. 80% Gruner, 20% Riesling. Mostly Santa Barbara fruit from the Kick On Ranch Vineyard.
Pair with goat cheese or grilled vegetable kebabs.

The 2021 Hinter der Mauer, 80% Gruner and 20% Riesling, is a white of uncommon depth, especially at its price point. Scents of pear, jasmine, mint and lemon confit lend nuance to a classy, polished wine that overdelivers big time. What a fun little number! Grassy and floral with white pepper on the nose, then the mouthfeel brings some fleshy grapefruit, pomelo, lime and a tropical lychee twist in a deliciously dry way
