Saturday night with Bordeaux blend from South Africa, paired with friends & their own ‘asado ( Argentine grill of chorizo, entricot, & sirloin; salad w tomato, jicama etc). Plenty of black fruits, cassis, & smokiness, all reflected in nose & palate. With air becomes quite long & elegant. Great concentration but balanced. Well done. Should I be surprised? Haven’t tasted a higher end cuvée from S Africa in eons so my data points are ancient, but yes, surprised

Last night of magic at our second home. Big and bold. Green pepper and herbs. Will go great with African food.

You would not initially think this was a South African wine as it lacks the typical unique earthiness you would usually detect. Instead this has a huge cherry bouquet. It’s overwhelming initially but mellows after breathing for an hour and becomes a very respectable effort. Dark and syrupy and unique in its own right.
