Siro Pacenti
PS Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese
Presented double blind, the wine appears a garnet color with a slightly orange/browning rim with a translucent core. Medium+ viscosity; no obvious signs of sediment, though it does appear like there may be a slight haze. There is some rim variation which could indicate some age. On the nose, the wine is intense. Vinous. Notes of red and dark fruit: dried cherries, desiccated strawberry, bergamot, leather and baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and I would nearly categorize as high acid. Confirming the notes on the nose although there is a sort of dried green herb note. Finish is medium. I called this Sangiovese, from Italy, from a modern producer in Brunello di Montalcino with 10-15 years of age…from a warmer vintage…went with 2007. I’ll be damned. I was told afterward that this had been opened and decanted for 30 minutes before pouring back into the bottle and served four hours later. You could hold for longer but I would just drink now.

May 5th, 2023Worst wine over the holiday season by a long mile. Decanted in the hope that it would live up to its potential, alas, it just failed to launch. Sour cherries and very little else. Typically, I really like these wines. I hope that this was just an outlier.

Dec 26th, 2022Stunning for the fact that there are no signs of aging. Sweet and sexy on the mid-palate. Beautiful acidity, complimented by bold tannins. We have more, so couldn’t be happier. Overall package is gorgeous.

Dec 18th, 2021Meaty, sweet cherry, leather, intense tangy fruit. Still young but yummy now.

Nov 23rd, 2019Pristine package and presentation. Tobacco city on the nose. On the palate it displays toast and herbs. Still fruity with coffee notes and spice box.

Mar 16th, 2019We pulled the pin on a green banana, but its pedigree shines thru. Decanted in the hope that our felony crime would be forgiven, however, this wine showed little mercy.
The nose was a giveaway with espresso: drum tight, and so unforgiving. Underripe tannins, with subtle fruits and pronounced herbs dominate the mid-palate. Young and boisterous, this is crying out for bottle age. Thanks @Mo Salem for the share.

A brilliant example that’s soaring right now.
Nose presents maraschino cherries. On the palate, the oak is regal and subtle. Deftly balanced with powdery tannins and bright acidity. All the components are integrated. Pure fruit with uncommon sweetness finish what is a polished example. Thank you, Mo for opening this gem.

My notes from last year still on point:
Fuller bodied and softer than last try, smoky and light minerals over gentle cedary wood and dark cherry. A mature wine with enough gritty tannin to go a long way.
Still that same strange white sediment.
This still has 2-3 years easily.

Apr 13th, 2018This is not a pop-n-pour, but in knuckle-head tradition, that’s what I did.
A classic Siro presentation, with hints of burnt oak, fig paste and herbs on the nose. On the palette, you’re greeted with uncommon sweetness for the varietal, followed by ripe tannins that are still not integrated. Finishes with plum jam and acidity that supports the fruit profile - excellent. I’m going to decant this now as it’s begging for air.
