Silver Oak
Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Flight #3 of our 1997 Retrospective. Presented single-blind; no formal notes. Wine #3 was vinous and in great shape. The only wine in the group that showed stronger notes of coconut and vanilla than the others. Called Silver Oak. Drink now and through 2030.

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish/brick rim.
Very complex nose with cedar, black fruits and vegetables.
Dry on the palate and fruit forward with great complexity.
Showing blackberries, black currants, plums, tobacco leaf, earth, dark coffee, chocolates, black pepper, black tea, bell pepper, Indian spices and vegetables.
Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.
This 26 year old Cabernet Sauvignon is drinking very nicely now, although might be past its prime.
Feels like an aged Left Bank Bordeaux.
Loved the nose here, but needed an hour of airtime to open up. After 3 hours of airtime, more vegetable and earth notes show up.
Robert Parker 94 points.
Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food.
A blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.
13.9% alcohol by volume.
93 points.
$150.

A standout to me based on the youthfulness of this bottle shared by @Mike R, thank you. Underbrush and mint on the nose. While still maintaining a bright red color that is still intact. Gave me devious reminders of a Penfolds Grange. Mint, iron and blast of minerals prevailed on the palate. Supremely balanced as some of the pre 97’s in the flight gained tannins.

May 20th, 2019Undeniably tasty and opulent. The biggest surprise vs expectation in the flight. Showing young and delicious. Shared by @Mike R and it gave @Joe Lucca a mild boner.

The absolute best vintage of silver Oak that I have ever had. Truly the way Silver Oak was meant to be. This is the better version of what they are making today.by if you can find it at auction!
