Dried violets, lavender, dusty blackberry and sage emerge from the 2020 Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva. It’s silky in texture, cool-toned and crisp. Ripe wild berries cascade across a vibrant, acidic core. A subtle coating of fine tannin lingers as the 2020 finishes pleasantly chewy and long. $22.00 (Eric Guido, Vinous, January 2024)

Cherry cola, dried hay, fall leaves, medium tannins, licorice, hint of marmalade and nice acid. Spaghetti and chicken sausage night. 😁

Deep Ruby with aromas of red fruits and herb floral notes, aged 2 years in large Slavonian oak barrels. On the palate flavors of cherry and raspberry with notes of oak, citrus, white flower and earthy spice. Fine tannins, medium+ finish ending with slightly smoky earthy oak character.

Medium intensity nose sports loads of tangy cherry and raspberry, along with a whiff of sandalwood and a note of sandstony/crushed rock minerality. In the mouth it’s balanced, reasonably concentrated, and bright. Flavors tend toward cherry liqueur and finish with a savory twist. Not as full bodied as some Cannonaus (only 14%). Nice dinner companion.

When I say this wine is funky, please know that it's a major compliment. Aged for two years in Slovenian oak casks, it has a purple hue that is gorgeous to behold. Spicy, with tart overtones, it lingers on the tongue so you can really taste the fruit. You'll get all the earthiness and rusticness that you knew you wanted from this, as well. This wine is perfect for food pairings.
On another note, the Cannonau wines from Sardinia supposedly have the highest levels of antioxidants of any wine in the world. And antioxidants are good for you! So this is Dr approved!

Grubbing down with zucchini "lasagna" and garlic bread, this rubbed the cotes du Rhone spot better than any Rhone I have had in quite a while, and still paired great with the food. Plenty of gamey black fruit and crunchy tannin!
