Popped and poured; consumed over the course of a few hours. The 2021 Sandlands Zinfandel pours a beautiful ruby with a fuchsia rim and a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with light staining of the tears. No signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of bright black bramble fruit which begin to show more like perfectly ripe red raspberries with more air, licorice, finely ground black pepper, sandy minerals and soft baking spices. On the palate, he wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The wine has a medium+ finish and gives an overall impression of freshness with a lovely vein of minerals. Better with air but enjoyable now; just needs some patience. I anticipate upside. This should drink very well through 2036. Once again, proof that distinctive Zinfandel can be made from Lodi.

Into the Zin, into the Sandlands. Inky dense ruby red, high pigment extraction. Raspberry and blackberry aromas, flavors, tar on finish. Rich and flavorful from the initial pour. Decent acid, light on alcohol compared to your traditional Cali Zin. Tart cherry and plum flavors emerge after 30 minutes. A multilayered treasure here!

My last bottle of 2018 Zinfandel from Sandlands. The wine pours a deep ruby color with a translucent core; medium+ viscosity and moderate staining of the tears and no signs of sediment. On the nose, blue and black fruits with baking spices. On the palate, the fruits and non-fruits are confirmed though the fruits come across slightly desiccated and there is a dash of black pepper. Medium- tannin and medium acid. Long ass finish. I love how these wines show off what Lodi is capable of. Drinking really well now; drink through 2028.

My first experience with the 2020 Sandlands Zinfandel. All fruit is sourced from the Kirschenmann Vineyard which was planted back in 1915. This is a delicious, fresh (in the typical Sandlands way) approach to Zinfandel while still holding fast to its varietal characteristics. In a lineup of wines, this stood out from the crowd and was quickly finished (even though nobody besides me really knew what it was). Drink now and over the next 5+ years.

Lots of rich, ripe fruit. This is definitely one of the riper Sandlands wines I’ve had.

Ripe. Surprisingly leaned more dark fruit. Has some earthy notes as well. Nice.
