Dark tart fruit with tobacco and intense slightly pruney fruit. On the palate powerful and zest. Packs a punch

A punchy nose with violets, cherry, sour notes. On the palate, noticeable tannin, tobacco, intense cherry and kirsch. Still dense. A punchy wine- very young.

BYOB by Joe and Pat. This was eerily similar to the Guado al Tasso. Lots of finesse and dried fruit. Smokey and in its secondary characteristic phase.

Dark cherries, blackberries, tobacco, cinnamon, and cola. Lovely bouquet and full-mouth feel. Earthy with a long finish.

Delicious Brunello, but needed some time to open up and probably a little too young to drink. Pure beam of cherry and black plum and definitely floral. Elegant and refined. The tannins we almost silky after a few hours. Not sure I agree with the 97 points from Wine Spectator, but still a pretty stellar Brunello from the fantastic 2016 vintage. Will hold onto my other bottles for a few years before trying again.

Difficult vintages can show who can adapt and who can’t. 2014 was a notoriously difficult year for Brunello with plenty of them just plain not living up to a certain standard. Still, some did. Bright ruby red with thin edges and purple accents. A rather lovely nose very typical of the variety with oak and soft vanilla notes. Dried floral aromas along with cherries and pomegranates.

This is one of those wines you believe may improve significantly in the near future but it’s drinking so nicely now. Everything is in it’s right place right now. Sleek and sexy, this isn’t a brute force Brunello. Time in the glass brings out earthy elements while the fruit remains a bit subdued. Eucalyptus and grassy knoll, worn leather and fresh herbs. More cherries with plums and blackberry. Medium long finish with a bite of spice. Doesn’t compare to the 2015’s but it does hold its own.
