This entry-level Napa Cab is still holding up surprisingly well. Completely mature. Soft and interesting. Cedar, bell pepper, smoke, earth, herbal underbrush and sweet macerated fruit. Like!

After tasting the 1996 RM Napa Cab in Aug 2017, it was a wonderful treat to compare and enjoy a taste of the 1997 vintage in today, September 2017. Both were good and still lively enough, but seemed to scream for immediate drinking. Cherry juice.

Classic Napa cabernet, this "entry level" cab from Mondavi is better that most of what's coming out of the valley now at 3x the price. Holding up beautifully after 19 years, this has everything you could want in an older cabernet with aromas of dried currants, leather, and earth. Great balance on the palate, with surprising persistence through the finish. Not sure how much more time this has left - maybe a few more years - but kudos to the late, great Robert Mondavi for setting the standard in Napa for so many years.

Surprise. 1997 is still alive. Nice maturity but plenty of fruit. Even holding its own the second night (and this was a half bottle... Must have been well cared for). Color is dark blood with brick edges. "Unfiltered" is an understatement... I could have planted a vineyard at the bottom of the bottle.

For not being their reserve, this is fantastic.
